Trying to decide bypass vs sleeve

Recommended Posts

I was 24 when I had my duodenal switch, I have pcos, and had sleep apnea, plus a ton of other things, they actually say the ds and Rny are great for diabetes I think I'm not sure, (which could easily become an issue with having the pcos) I am so glad I did the ds because I've had amazing results, can have a bite of something if I really really want to. I don't have the diarrhea some do but then again I don't eat high in fat foods, at least not the bad fats... I have problems with lactos, but I had a bit of. Problem before the surgery... :)

Ty yes I feel amazing! I'm very happy with my surgery of choice... I have a lot of friends that have made others and I know that this was absolutely the best for me :) especially for my long term...

I still have about 20-50 I'd love to shed, just changing up some things now again, so I will get there

Could the additional 20-50 be just exta skin? I'm assuming I'll have to have about 20 lbs of skin removed at least

I had a lapband to bypass revision....best decision for me...My suggestion...if you have lots of weight to lose consider the bypass.

In Ontario, you can only get the sleeve if you have a medical condition that justifies it. They say Bypass is the Gold Standard and since the government pays, they want to pay for what they know works. I think in 10 years time they will give the choice of either - who knows, maybe sooner. But for me it will be bypass and because I suffer from heartburn, I've decided I'd rather not have the sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
