Protein and clear liquids

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 days sleeved. My doctor said don't worry about Protein the first week, just stay hydrated with 65 oz a day. But Protein does worry me a bit because I've done all I can to fight hair loss even before the surgery, and I know protein plays a major role. I thought I could get protein in, and I just can't yet. I'm barely hitting my 65, more like 50-60 a day. Did you guys go without protein the first few days. If not, on did you get it in. I tried the Isopure Water and I gag drinking it. It's nasty. The good news is so far, I have zero pain, no nausea, just a little gas still. Any advice would help. Thanks.

Every doctor is different. It will be a while until you can hit your daily Protein goal, consistently. It took me 18 months. During that time, my NUT told me to eat NOTHING that wasn't a high source of lean/FF Protein and continue to take my Vitamins. No veggies, fruit, and of course no flour, sugar, Pasta, bread or potatoes. That first salad after 18 months was an absolute delight!!!

As far as clear protein, there is a product called nectar which a lot of people like and comes in MANY flavors. There is also powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, they make a chicken broth which is VERY good. They may also make fruity flavors, but I'm not sure of that.

IMHO, I believe protein is VERY important in the first days as it is needed for healing. But again, you will probably not reach your daily goal, just do your best and don't fill any of that tiny precious space with anything but protein.

every day gets a little easier. just keep your Water handy and sip all day. i would say around day 5 i started focusing on my Protein. i like priemere which is sold at costco it needs to be very cold. try different drinks. i loved the vanilla in the beginning, now i can stand it and prefer the chocolate. as far as hair loss goes im 4 months out so far so good. i do keep up with my Protein and Vitamins. good luck im loving my decision to get sleeved.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or worse, but my surgeon says Protein has nothing to do with the Hair loss that follows weight loss surgery (neither does Biotin or any sort of special potion or shampoo). I ate high protein for weeks before surgery and hit my protein goal (75+ grams) starting the first 24 hours of surgery and every day thereafter -- and I still lost tons and tons of hair. So yes, you should be striving towards your protein goals but, IMO, because you need for post-surgical healing, not because it will prevent hair loss.

My surgeon had a completely different attitude: he wanted me hitting my Protein target of 100 grams right away. As far as I can tell, that was why my recovery went to well. Protein and Fluid are critical for healing. Personally, I would suggest that you not WORRY but also that you do everything you can to get in your protein and fluid by making your primary focus.

You should be near the end of your Clear Liquids phase by now I would think. I was only on clear liquids for 3 days, iirc? Anyway, if you still want to look for some clear Liquid Protein options, you can do Syntrax Nectar or Unjury chicken broth.< /p>

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
