Hi everyone! I have decided to have a sleeve after new year and got private insurance. It will start working in 9 months. I haven't seen a doctor yet. I know I might sound ridiculous, but I'm scared to say something wrong and be rejected. Am I getting crazy?

No, your not crazy just sound nervous like most everyone else is when pursuing this. Just a small word of advice, get all the requirements from your insurance for approval now so you don't have any surprises. If they require a six month doctor monitored weight loss attempt you could get set with a primary doctor and get that started now so you will be ready when time comes to start working with the surgeon.

Many Bariatric Programs have informational seminars that you need to attend first. Go to that and learn and ask questions. As reree6898 said - many plans have requirements for approval - find out what theirs are and start working on them. Mine has a 6 month supervised weight loss program requirement which I wish I had known about.

It is alot different on Australia than the states.

Basically we dont get approved as such... we need to be a BMI of 40+ or 35 with health issues.

You will meet with your surgeon.. he will hear your story.. and discuss surgery options and make recommendations, then once you have decided to go ahead... you book a hospital date... then see the psych and nutritionist.

You do the pre op diet and then you get done... and thats pretty much the process

I feel your nerves! I started my 6 months of supervised diet on March 29. I'm totally freaking out over numbers. I have been stable between 280-288 lbs for the last few years. But I'm worried that I won't be 285 lbs (starting weight) or below.

I'm trying to get healthier in eating, taking the Vitamins and moving more.

Best advice I received:

Trust the process.

It's a marathon not a sprint, just keep chugging along.

Hey.... i am doing okay....

Had the surgery late yesterday afternoon.... there was a delay.

I was pretty drugged up...in and out of it once i left recovery.

I have no hunger... pain is minimal.. however the heartburn is pretty annoying.

Other than that... im doing ok

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
