I just had 1/4 of a Pepsi on some ice. I swear I have died and gone to heaven. I poured the 4th in the cup and threw the rest away immediately. It satisfied my urge. In the last 22 months, I may have had three sodas in all. Before surgery, I thought giving up Pepsi would take me over the edge and kill me. A small treat to myself that I completely enjoyed.

I saw this article posted online yesterday and found it to be an interesting read:

Enjoy this simple pleasure on occasion. Congratulations, you worked very hard to lose almost 60lbs!

If you really want to stir up some people, say you drank it through a straw. :)

there are times in my life when all I drank was coca cola. I love love love love love.

I doubt I would ever even open the door like that because I don't want to go down that road. I am sure it would be heaven but not worth it for me.

I was almost afraid to read it because I thought the article was going to say I would be dead by tomorrow. LOL!.

I was a Diet Coke freak! Then a few weeks before surgery I decided to give it up. About 5 months after surgery I tried a sip of Diet Coke and hated it! Then I had a craving for something bubbly so I got a Sprite Zero - nope! Even though I know these things are frowned upon, I find that sometimes I need to revisit some of my old favorites to either satisfy a craving or discover that I am no longer interested. :)

I have had a rare soda, not many in the last 3 years but a few times, I do not however use straws and I try not to drink anything carbonated. I didn't die from the soda but my Dr. was specific about do's and don't's so I don't push that much.

I have no desire to go back to soda, but I did have a beer after my last 5K (hey it was a free craft beer). I sipped it like it might be radioactive, but my stomach didn't explode. But it wasn't as good as I remembered.

Well as someone from Belgium, I do hope I will be able to sip a bit from a trappist beer in the future :P But I never was a big soda fan, except maybe Dr. Pepper, but really occasionally.

I can't believe how foul diet coke tastes to me now, after a 2 liter a day habit for many years. There are times I remember that great feeling off it going down my throat, but the taste just sucks now.

To me, it is not worth to risk of expanding my stomach. My doc said that is one of the risk of drinking any soda.

I drink Coke Zero (through a straw!) every day and am almost three years out. I gave it up for three months pre-op and more than 6 months post. My NP approved it because it was my only real vice and I never looked back.

No stomach stretching -- that's ridiculous. Air can't stretch your tummy. ;)

@@Lipstick Lady, my doc allows my coke zero as well. Of course it takes days to drink one so I think I am okay with regard to expanding my stomach.

If liquid and air expands your stomach, your doctor did a pretty sucky job at your surgery -- possible even inserted a raggedy old balloon in it's place. ;) I think you're safe. :D

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
