Slow weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hi, was wondering if anyone has experienced what i am going through. I will be 4 weeks pre op on 4/12. Was on clear liquid diet one week prior to surgery. I was 201 when I started my Clear liquids. Was 189 the day of surgery. I am now 176, so have lost a total of 25 lbs. I did my 2 weeks of Clear Liquids post op, and currently starting my second week of full liquids. I work out at least 30 minutes 5 days/weekly, and my calorie intake is about 500-600 daily. I was initially losing about 5 lbs weekly, but my weight loss has decreased. I keep going up and down from 175 to 176. I weighed 178 on 04/1. This morning (4/10) i weighed 174.8, and tonight i weighed myself before going to bed and im back to 176.6. I am sooo confused and becoming a little discouraged, especially since i have not cheatef once. I have done everything by the books, have followed everything my doc and NUT have ordered to the T.

Any ideas, suggestions, advice?

Hi there....

I'm pre op- but just from my previous diet experience- don't weigh yourself at night. Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day quite a lot. Stick to mornings maybe once a week.

Have you been keeping your Water intake up? That can have a lot to do with weight loss too.

I normally drink Water fine, just having issues with the small sips im supposed to be taking. I keep telling myself im not gonna weigh myself, but my anxiety of losing weight is bad i guess. Thanks for the advise and good luck with your surgery, hope all goes well.

Your true weight is morning weight before in take. You will weigh differently in the evening as you're body holds on to fluids throughout the day. You are doing well losing at 4 weeks post op. I was 200 and I am 3 months post op and lost 22lbs so far and have not cheated. Following doctors recommendations. Remember first few months is about your body healing from surgery. I just got my 3rd fill and I think finally in the green zone this week. Yay!!

I would also add, that is very few calories. Your body may just be trying to hold on to what it can!

How many calories are most of you taking in. My doctor tells me no more than 800 per day but being a nurse I have the same concern as ErinMarie.

My RD said that once I reach maintenance I should aim for 1,000-1,200 calories.

@@Lisi200 I think you should only weight yourself once a week, and don't focus so much on scale numbers. You can still be losing inches. Gaining muscle mass will help you burn more calories, but keep in mind that muscle is much more dense and heavier than fat.

I suggest you weigh yourself only once a week at the same time each week. There are too many fluctuations that occur naturally for daily weighing to be useful.

I remember early on the lbs seemed to come off very slowly, but they really do add up quickly. As time goes on you won't be continually thinking about the surgery you had as other things take over attention as life moves on.

It is a bit like pregnancy. The first trimester feels really slow. The third goes by so fast and before you know it your baby has arrived.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
