Now, with the RNY there was no way I could've gone back in 5 days. Had my first post op today and they were a bit upset that I went back after 2 weeks. I have a sit down desk job but it took me a week and a half to be able to drive due to the pulling on my 5 incisions. I have hit a small bump in my journey with fluids. I'm a month out and have what they call a stricture. I'm having my 2nd endoscopy this Friday to stretch my esophagus. I'm so dehydrated and anything I swallow feels like it's stuck in my chest. I actually vomited for the first time yesterday. This all didn't start until 2 weeks after surgery. If it's gonna happen it's usually around 4-6 weeks I've been told. But one day at a time. I had my surgery through wake forest baptist health in North Carolina and they wouldn't schedule my surgery until BCBS approved it. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

The 2 days before surgery was a piece of cake. I was on Clear liquids for a week after surgery and sugar free popcicles were my saving grace. Hello was great too. Then I moved on to puréed foods after that week but only got a few good days before the stricture happened. The interesting thing is I now could care less about food. My stomach no longer growls. It's interesting to feel the changes.

I am sorry to hear of the stricture. I am hopeful that the endoscopy to stretch your esophagus will help give you the relief that you need. As soon as you are up to it, please keep me posted on how the endoscopy went and if things are better for you.

Thank you. 12:30 today. Hoping this does the trick

I have Kaiser. I was required to take a 6 week class (last class is today). In 7-10 days I will get a call from the surgeons office to schedule my official consult and will schedule the surgery. I first went to see a nurse practitioner in the weight management and she approved me for the classes. So I guess I met the basic Kaiser requirements.

I have Kaiser also. I was just approved last week. How long has your journey been?

Just checking on you, how are you feeling do you feel any relief? I hope so.

How are you feeling today, did the procedure work? Wanted to let you know that I was approved by BCBSIL. Found out today, thank goodness. I completed my pre-op appointment today and am on the schedule for gastric bypass on this Wednesday at 12:30 afternoon. Went out and bought sugar free popsicles, wylers sugar free singles, Apple juice, white grape juice, chicken broth. Tomorrow is the clear liquid diet, so I will have those items and I have to do a bowel prep. Not looking forward to the bowel prep...... Glad things are moving on.

Appointment with Dr. Macik on October 4th, submission to insurance 10/10/16, BCBSIL/Teamcare approval 10/24/16, surgery 10/26/16. I thank God for his blessings.

I also have United Healthcare and I also have the "six month waiting period". The insurance person at the Dr. Office told me they never have to wait the six months especially if you have a documented history of a medically supervised diet program. With your post I am getting nervous. I have one more requirement to get (pulmonary eval) and that happens next week. The way she explained it to me is that if the insurance balks at the approval, the doctor mentions something along the lines of "Fine but if the patient keels over from a heart attack they are coming after you!" She said that usually solves it.

Also remember that the doctor and hospital are very motivated to do the surgery, e.g. $$$. Now I am not saying the doctor would recommend a surgery of this magnitude just to get the money but the once he says it is a good fit and you pass all the medical requirements the hospital wants it done as soon as possible. Use them to get it approved faster. My hospital has a "patient advocate" department. You might contact them.

Health insurance is based on the plan your employer picks or you are paying for. There is no standard for wls coverage. That is why you hear people with the same insurance company but one covers the surgery and the other doesn't. It's based on the plan not the insurance company. I don't think people understand this. Employers pick what plans they provide to their employees. They are not cookie cutter.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
