Sleeve surgery but not in a hospital - dr Kim

Recommended Posts

I had a super hard time with my surgery and there's no way I could have gone home. They wanted to keep me three nights but I begged and went home at the end of my third day.

the risk of leaks is 0%.

That is an impossible claim. Anything has the possibility of leaking. It may reduce the chances but nothing can be guaranteed 100%.

Dr Holden (one of Dr Kim's partners)did my surgery. My surgery was around noon and I was discharged around 10:30pm that night. No complications at all.

Not sure where you got the risk of leaks is 0% because even his website says it reduces the chance of leaks. post-269560-1460934389839_thumb.jpg

It sounds like a cross between regular gastric sleeve and gastric plication -- kind of like a french seam in sewing. Very interesting.

I'm concerned that everyone else stays in the hospital over night but Dr. Kim's is an out patient procedure. Any thoughts?

Are you self pay or is your insurance covering this?

I live in Plano. I researched Dr. Kim, Dr. Barker, and went to an info meeting as well as an office visit with the Nicholson Clinic.

I personally was not thrilled about the outpatient surgery thing. I had my gallbladder out years ago and stayed a couple of nights in the hospital afterwards due to extreme dizziness after the anesthesia. This is NOT the norm, I know lots of people who do gallbladder removal and go home the same day. But I do worry I will need more time.

However, we do live like 10 minutes from Plano Presby so I could be back at the ER really quickly if necessary.

Now I am using a surgeon recommended by my insurance BCBSTX. He does surgery at Plano Presby and a 1 night stay is the norm.

I asked if you are self pay because I considered that just to get things done faster. The problem with self pay is that IF you need to go to the ER and possibly be admitted after the surgery your insurance most likely will not cover that. Just be aware.

Personally I feel better having the surgery at a hospital and staying at least one night.

Most of the same day surgeons do have good reputations though, so you will probably be fine.

Both Nicholson and my own surgeon have told me the only leaks they ever see are people who don't follow the rules.

I went to a support group at Presby last week. A nurse who works with 5 different bariatric surgeons there said they have had ONE leak in the THREE years she has worked there, and it was a guy who went home and ate solids before he was supposed to. Who would do that??? Scary!

Anyway, I think Kim has a good reputation.

Where is this guy located ? I'd rather do this. I'm creeped out by hospitals at night

There are a lot of doctors in the Dallas area who do WLS outpatient. Get 'em in, get 'em out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
