So I had surgery 3/31, one week tomorrow. I feel great with the exception of some serious pain on my right side when I get up, sit down, get in the car, get in and out of bed, cough, etc. feels like I'm getting stabbed or something. Anyone else experience this? I'm curious how long it takes to go away. I'm ready to get moving and this is really holding me back.

Yes, I had that -- it's very normal, as per the bariatric nurse at my surgeon's office anyway. It took 2-3 weeks for mine to go away completely.

If you still need pain meds, don't be shy about taking them. I was able to stop taking them during the day very quickly, but taking the pain meds at night really helped with pain caused by lying down, rolling over, etc. and helped me get the sleep I needed.

Thank you. Three weeks seems so far away. Luckily it's my only set back.

Hi,

I had my VSG same day as you and all is great except the sameness pain you describe. Stabbing pain on the right, vey sore when I bend down, do stairs etc. nights are fine, day is worse when I move so trying to take it easy, walk as much as possible.

I am lucky I have had no other awful experiences, had no nausea nor vomiting, and apart from tightness in the chest when sipping fluids all is good.

All the best!

Are you feeling better? My pain actually seems to be getting worse on my right side. I'm thankful I have a doctors appointment on Monday. It can't get here soon enough. Going to take pain meds tonight to see if I can get some comfortable sleep. I wish it would go away because other than this stabbing burning pain on my right side I feel great.

The pain I felt, felt like I swallowed a handful of wasps that kept stinging my tummy from the inside - not quite like getting stabbed, but not fun ;-) It was most noticeable getting in and out of bed, or coughing and sneezing... the second week was better than the first, and the third week I was not "normal", but I was not worried about it any more either...

Uh you feel like you're being stabbed because in fact you were stabbed there and yes you have to be VERY Careful getting up sitting down etc and rely on your arm strength rather than your abs to do that for several weeks. liquid Tylenol helps, do NOT lift ANYTHING. If the pain gets worse instead of a little bit better each day then call your Dr ASAP because it could be a sign that you have pulled your incision or it's getting infected. Otherwise take care of yourself and don't overdo it. You just had major surgery, and yes it is going to take time to heal.

Yeah Tylenol isn't helping and in fact the pain meds aren't helping either. I tried that tonight thinking maybe it would take away the pain. The only thing that helps at times is to apply pressure and to sit or lie perfectly still. I guess I'm going to have to call in the morning because I can barely move.

You most likely have a stitch in your stomach muscle, I had same, it will go away once stitch inside heals. Takes 2-3 weeks, in meantime most of us feel your pain hang in there !!!

You need to speak to your surgeon. I had discomfort on my right side and at first they thought I had developed a hernia, but fortunately it was just scar tissue that pulled away. That pain could be something serious, please contact your dr. about it.

Your welcome, as there others say, I would still contact your surgeon because it definitely could be something different for each person, but rooting for ya that it's just a stitch that will dissolve and you will be better.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
