Hola, Friends! Hey I wanted to post this on this site, but as often happens, I looked at the myriad categories/ threads and had no idea which one to post it in. That's one thing that drives me mad about this site: too many options; hell, you'd think you had a choice...!!

Anyway, I'm 64 and I want to up my exercise, I've been around 30 minutes of walking, fairly fast, but maybe only 4 or 5 times a week. Now I know that's not bad to some people, but I know that I need more.

Plus now at 8 weeks post op, my appetite has returned and it makes me nervous a bit. I'm still holding strong at around 900 calories a day; I journal everything I eat which would have been unthinkable before because I was such an unconscious emotional eater.

I'm 6' 2" and now about 209 lbs (my high was 305), and my goal is 195 or so. I weigh in once a week at work on the school nurse's scale and I fear that this week may be the very first time I actually weigh MORE than the week before, however if that is the case I'll simply reduce intake and up the exercise. I've never felt such a sense of control and discipline in my life.

Wow. Almost 100 pounds in 8 weeks. I am guessing some of that is pre-op. Anyways hats off to you.

Eventually you will transition from the "weight loss" phase into the "maintenance" phase. But I think you might lose a little more weight before then. I transitioned around my 6th or 7th month. The following article describes my experience with the "maintenance" phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

Hi and thanks. No, I certainly won't be able to lose any more weight after another month or so, I would be dangerously thin. Yes, I met the doctor half way. I lost around 50 myself with a really good exercise program and Atkins diet (trust me, I'd done it before...), so I feel like I really had established some good habits pre-op. The lowest I could go with my very wide shoulders is perhaps 190, maybe 185 but even now I'm getting those extremely irritating comments about, "Don't you think that's enough now?" etc... So very soon it will be about maintenance. And the appetite isn't completely back, just s small bit, but I did find that my useless calorie allotment had crept up to where 200 or more calories of my daily 900 were puddings, chocolates, etc; sure, all sweetened with Stevia but more importantly just a really bad direction, so I nipped that, plus it's a lot more satisfying to use those calories on eggs or Soups or baba ganoush etc.Man, what an incredible journey this has been. Good luck to you!!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
