Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?

Recommended Posts

Thank you so much!!! And believe me, I've learned to tell them, I don't even weigh myself anymore, don't know don't care... That usually shuts them up![emoji23]

I told my immediate family and about 4 friends that I was going to have WLS. Afterwards, when a situation came up that I needed to refuse food in a social gathering, I would just say that I had stomach surgery and wasn't allowed to eat certain things. It worked. No one ever asked me anything about my surgery or made the connection with the sleeve. And I didn't have to lie. I'm not good at remembering what lies I might have told.

I didn't tell anyone except my spouse, my immediate boss, my big boss, and one guy at work that just had it done. I am not keeping it a secret once it is done, cause I really don't care, I just don't want to listen to the BS for several months leading up to it.

That's great that you didn't have any noisy people asking questions lol. All my acquaintances will ask me every detail and then

Google it after I leave hahaha

Thank you!!! And no kidding. That's the plan! My wife says she can't even begin to say it without laughing hahaha. In my life the only people who would ask are the same people who would yell "tidal wave" when I jumped in the pool last year... So SCREW THEM! They don't deserve the truth!!!

I only told my mom, wife, and best friend. Boom!

Love love love it!!! So awesome! And yes SCREW THEM!!! I can already tell you are going to do fantastic! When is your surgery date? Im so excited I can't!

Sleeved 3/29/16. One week ago tomorrow. liquid and Protein intake on target. Zero pain from surgery. I felt soooo good on Saturday that I helped coach my sons lacrosse team. Warning: 5 days on your butt followed by 3 hours on your feet results in a sprained ankle! No joke. It's the only thing keeping me from being 100% back to routine.

That's awesome good for you! I'm so happy to hear this. I have 3 small sons to keep up with and they don't stop for anything haha I hope I'll do as great as you.

Hi, my name is Michele. I have told my family, and few close friends. I may regret telling that many, we shall see. My surgery is scheduled for April 19. I started my pre-op diet this morning.

Hi Michele! Welcome! I'm scheduled 9 days after you! Is your pre op diet strictly liquid? For some reason My surgeon doesn't require pre op diet. I'm going to start my own diet before hand though.

Hi and thank you! My diet is 3 Protein shakes a day, 2 Protein Bars or meat sticks, sugar free Jello and sugar free drinks, to include coffee/tea. I'm hoping it's not too bad...I'm sure it will get tough at some point :-)

One thing to keep in mind... Many years ago my friend (now my wife) had WLS. She did great but after she had lost quite a lot I started being approached by people who had known her for years but weren't close friends. They were worried that she had cancer or something. I used to tell them that she was fine, but had been watching her weight. They were always relieved and never asked more.

Someone posted about starting to amp up their social media pages about dieting and exercising. I'm usually quiet about that stuff when I do it but that might be a good way to keep from the question after we've lost the weight.

I actually did post something on mine this morning. All I said was that I am starting the first phase towards getting back to the old me, and making changes that I need to in order to feel better...didn't even mention weight loss, but kept it as overall self improvement...I hope it helps.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
