Surgery February 9th, scared I'm going to gain weight

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on February 9th and I've lost 35lbs, but I am terrified I'm going to eat too much and gain weight. Anyone else feel like this? How do you deal with it? What is your total daily calorie count?

On some level, i think all of us share that fear. I am trying to turn it around and picture myself fit and active -- what i want, not what i am afreaid of.

My surgeon increased my Protein target to 80-100 grams per day and I feel like I'm constantly eating to meet it. Most days I stay under 1,200 calories, but the thought of gaining weight is always in the back of my mind

Weeeelll ... if you're eating 100 grams of Protein, that's only 400 calories.

What else are you eating right now (only a few months post-op) that adds up to the other 800 calories? I do realize that Protein doesn't come in protein-only packages: chicken contains protein and fat; dairy products contain protein, carbs and fat, etc. But are you eating breads, potatoes, rice now? If so, I would so not be eating that stuff.

FYI, I ate about 800 cals/day for the first 4 months, then 1,000 cals the next 2 months, then raised it to 1,200 cals for Months 7 and 8.

I just don't think I could've eaten 1,200 calories two months post-op.

Protein shakes (160 calories each), low fat string cheese, chicken breast, turkey breast, salmon, yogurt. I'm not eating bread, rice, or potatoes. If you read my post, you'd notice that I said I stay UNDER 1,200 calories per day, not that I eat 1,200 calories a day. Most days I don't even get near that.

Aaahhh ... thought you meant closer to 1,200/day.

Never mind. :)

The most important number is your Protein target. Your calories will be relative/dependent on that.

What is your Protein target?

At my last follow up they increased my Protein target to 80-100 grams per day. I usually get 80-90 per day.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
