On the go food: cheap date

Recommended Posts

I had a dentist appointment today and then was going to the gym to sign up and work out and I needed to get some food in me. I went to a popular restaurant next to the dentist that has a salad/hot food/ Chinese food/ sushi by the pound type of place. I typically avoid this type of food but I remembered they always have steamed fish and chicken. (Probably some msg thrown in haha).

To measure my steamed fish, they have the 1 ounce salad dressing cups so I just put some fish in it multiple times and tossed in a little chicken piece. I added some steamed eggplant because they charge more for all meat. Very tasty.

The grand total was $2.25. Hahaha. Before when I went there after the dentist it would be like 10.00 since it is 8.00 a pound. Man have times changed.

For me a crunchy taco at Taco Bell or a chili at Wendy's seemed to work well. Or go to Texas Roadhouse and order a large steak, take most of it home and have leftovers for a week.

It is almost embarrassing how cheap dates have gotten. My girlfriend doesn't eat much, and I sure don't. We have gotten into the habit of splitting a plate. I don't drink when I eat, and she just has Water sans ice.

I was thinking about starting a thread on this theme but you beat me to it.

Think about it...if I go out by myself, I take home my left overs and get 2 additional meals out of it. So if I spend $30 on average for dinner...Before surgery, three days = $90. But post surgery, 3 days is $30, saving me $120 a week, or $6240 a year. I think this should pay off my surgery in a year in food savings. As I do my taxes, I'll see if that math holds true, but for me that is pretty dang close.

Wow $90? Pre op we would order huge meals and rarely spend more than $40 at a restaurant, unless it was sushi

Thank you. I always get concerned I might have made a math error.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
