I am so sorry about the cancer. BIG hugs.

I get the being so depressed you're just eating whatever. This type of thing will test you and all of those new habits that are still being put into place, and it is so easy to fall back to using food as a comfort.

But please please don't give up on yourself and your health. You'll need to be eating healthy and keep your strength up to deal with the cancer.

Be kind to yourself but don't give up - keep fighting!

I am a thyroid cancer survivor. Have you read about that particular type? If you're going to get cancer, then get thyroid cancer. 99% of the time it does not spread.

They removed my thyroid (my little "butterfly" had grown to a 9-inch "Mothra"). I've been fine ever since. They didn't even have me undergo treatment. The endocrinologist keeps my synthroid high to discourage any attempt of leftover cells to grow back. It's been about a year and a half now, and she's going to lower the dosage. I feel so much better now that it's gone. I had all the classic symptoms of thyroid problems, but it took a determined primary to push the ENTs to listen to me. All they saw was a fat woman wondering why she couldn't lose weight (i.e., an excuse).

Try not to worry (silly to tell you that, I know).

I'm so sorry for the diagnosis. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 1997 and had my thyroid removed. I also did not need to have any further treatments except Synthroid.

You have done very well with your WL so far. This may be a bump in the road. I hope you have a good support network or use this place as a support.

Please keep us updated.

So sorry to hear about your diagnosis but never give up hope!

My best friend had thyroid cancer and had it removed. That was about 10 years ago and she's doing just great. Didn't need any chemo or radiation. She said she had a little bit of discomfort (felt cold) while they were getting the hormones dialed in correctly but after that she's just been completely unaffected. In fact she started teaching yoga, kept up her running, etc. -- and she just turned 65 so she's not a kid!

You can get past this! My thoughts and prayers will be with you -- but you don't need 'em. Keep your spirits up and you're going to be just fine...

@@songsmith and others who've had thyroid cancer, how are the pills you have to take after thyroid removal surgery? Can it be crushed or taken in powder form?

I just got diagnosed too and am still quite stunned. I am worried about the after-care as it relates to the sleeve.

Synthoid pill is very small and round pill. No problems taking them with the band. I do not have sleeve yet.

@ midorigal- I've been taking my Synthroid whole since the day after surgery. It is very small. You can cut it if you need to but highly unlikely you will need to do that.

@@shokoh - So sorry for your diagnosis but as others have said, if you have to get cancer, this is the kind to get. I promise once you get it out and get your Synthesis regulated, you will feel a million times better. You MUST be consistent with taking your med. Every morning with Water only and wait an hour to eat. It is very important to be consistent with this new especially in the beginning when they are trying to get you to the right dose. As for the other stuff, please don't let this derail you. You have done well. Are you seeing a therapist? If not, I would strongly suggest doing that during this difficult time to help you sort thru the feelings and to get back on track with your eating. You got this!!

Wishing you both have a great recovery from thyroid cancer. So good to hear from others who've been there that the recovery great is high and (compared to other cancers) relatively easy.

I am so sorry about your diagnosis but now is the time to turn your anger against the cancer. Write, curse, scream, throw things. I understand the eating because of feeling so angry and discouraged but turn it against the cancer not yourself.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
