Mushie question

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I will be entering mushie stage soon and wondered something. Dosen't all food turn into mushy food if you chew it enough? Like, for instance, what if I put a cracker in my mouth and chewed and chewed and chewed. It would become mushie in my mouth. So is a cracker or a chip a mushie if I chewed and chewed?:)

Thanks for any advice, thoughts or comments.

Technically yes I believe so, which is kinda the road I took! haha what can I say Im a rebel! But I have found out that no matter how much I chew..some things I can not keep down, like bread or chicken etc. Basically you know the foods the doc wants you on, try sticking to them as much as possible, but if that fails..Chew chew chew :0

No, they really aren't the same. The thing is, the more you have to chew then that means your stomach also has to finish the job. When you drink broth your stomach does virtually nothing, there is no work on the part of your stomach to combine the broth with stomach acids, break it down further, and then push it through to the intestines.

Solids... you have to chew that. Those types of food require more work on the part of your stomach to mix with stomach acid, break the foods down further (chewing to a liquid isn't even enough) and then push it through the intestines.

If your stomach has to work in that way it isn't going to be able to form the adhesions that will hold the band in place long term.

I know it's frustrating but the reality is the longer you stay on the post op diet the better your chances for not having a slip today or a year from now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
