Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie had surgery 2/23/16 was wondering how much weight you lost your 1st month switching from band to sleeve? Do you feel having the band first helped you or hurt you with the sleeve!!??

I had my band removed and revision to sleeve on 3/9/2016. I lost 66 lbs with the band, then started being able to eat a little more than I should so I had 1 cc of Fluid put in my band. After 6 months of throwing most of my meals up. I made an appt to have the Fluid removed. After that the vomiting continued and I wasnt even able to get applesauce through the band. I had good days and bad days. When the doctor took my band out he said that it was into my liver and my esophagus was a little elevated, that is probable the reason why I was having such a hard time eating. I went into surgery at 194 and am now 184. Having that band removed was the best thing I have ever done. The only thing that makes me nervous is learning how to eat with something new again. I think it helps that we are already in the wls mode. I dont drink soda, I dont drink 30 minutes before and after my meals, so dont have to get used to that. haha.

Ugh I feel your pain im so glad your done with the band!! So how's it going for you with sleeve? How much have you lost if you don't mind me asking?

I just had my 1 month post op and down 16 lbs they said that was good for people with band to sleeve. People that go straight to sleeve normally lose alot more weight quicker but he said I'm doing good!

Is there any reason why less lost Band to sleeve? I lost 8 lbs the first week and 13 from my last OV. Luckily I did not gain too much before converting ( 20 lbs ) . Not that its a drop in the bucket but way better than 50!. I am 20-25 lbs from goal

I had conversion on Mar 1st, so not quite a month, and have loss 27 so far. It's come off pretty easily. I've followed the diet plan and try to walk at least 30 min per day, 5 days per week. I'm so glad that band is out.

rhya2k, good luck on Wednesday. It's definitely different than the band. I was really nervous when I started eating this past week. It's so nice not to have everything stick in the band.

I'm not sure @@certifiedcoder why the Dr. said that but I could imagine cause we know how to eat, chew and pick things that go down not drink before or after compare to someone that ate and drank whatever then switched to sleeve??

I had my band to sleeve 2/26. I can't believe it's been a month already. I've lost about 10lbs since surgery. But I lost 18 doing the liquid diet 2 weeks before the surgery.

I do have issues with reflux but I take my protronix in the morning and it's fine. Not severe. I get nausea as well a bit at times. Not often but just now and then and usually of I eat a bit too much or too fast.

I do take a chewable Multivitamin. They are Bariatric fusion orange cream flavor. They don't taste bad but they are enormous!! It is a struggle to get it down some mornings.

I think I'll just get flint stones chewables when I need more.

Ive been on nexium for years now, so my surgeon didnt think that I would have any problems getting the sleeve, but my reflux was controlled. This morning I was cleaning the house and I guess from bending over several times did something, because I cant get rid of the reflux. I took another nexium and a zantac and it still is coming up to my throat.

I'm sorry your going through that..... I was wondering if it's something you ate maybe that didn't agree? I'm still learning what works better than others in certain foods that's when I see that I have more than other times. Sometimes drinks even Water makes me feel icky I've put lemon or mint etc and sometimes that don't even help! Then again I'm only 5 weeks out so I'm hopeful it'll get better from here.

Hello, WALK OF SHAME HERE! new to the site, had lap band for 10 years now, lost 75 pounds the first 6 months, ultimately learned how to eat crappy again and abused my band and gained all of my weight back plus, I have basically felt like I don't have a band for past 5 years assuming my stomach has stretched out above the band. As of late been feeling a bubble like feeling in my throat, got an esophagram today to learn my assumption it correct but worse than I thought, my band is barely visible my stomache above the band is as big as the stomach below the band and flaps over the band. Was told it obviously can not be left like this, I am concidering getting the sleeve after I get the band removed, but I am scared. Are there and regretting this? Should I just get the band removed and join weight watchers? Or are you happy with your sleeve?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
