Time for a new start making appointment for band revision to bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi ... As many are stating here they have been banded for a while and now switching over . I was banded 11/2009 , lost weight initially and nothing now , actually gaining and fast . I'll admit I'm not working out and need to . Regardless , I'm calling on Monday to make my appointment with a new surgeon to discuss lap and revision to bypass . Can someone tell me if you have to go through all of the pre req appointments again like before banding ? Also, what has been the general turn around time from initial appointment to surgery time for everyone ?

I had my lap band put in in 2008. Currently, I am working towards a revision to bypass (nearing end of six month supervised diet insurance requirement). For me, I am having to do all the pre-op stuff all over again- supervised diet, psych evaluation, upper GI, meeting with a nutritionist, EKG, etc. That seems to be the norm from what I've seen on here.

It really depends on your insurance, check your booklet if they cover subsequent bariatric surgery, if they do, they will list the requirements.

For me in addition to doing all pre op requirements (3 month diet, psych eval etc) it stated that I have to show that I have been obese for 2 years prior to the surgery and that I complied with the requirements of my first surgery. My surgeons office submitted paperwork on Friday so right now we are waiting to see if they will approve it.

I am glad you made a decision to look into it, it took me many years to convince myself (I was banded in 2007) and overcome a fear of having RNY (that's why I didn't have it first time around)

Seems my only other clearances I have to do now before surgery is meet with pulmonologist and take s nutrition class to learn how to eat after surgery.

It really, does, depend on the insurance. Mine is UHC and I didn't have to do any of the typical requirements. However, my band has failed in the sense that with ANY fill, it causes reflux so severe that I wake up at night choking and unable to breathe so mine was presented as a medical necessity. With that being said, my policy only allows for one bariatric procedure per lifetime. My band was placed when we had a different insurance company though. As far as turn around time, my approval came less than two weeks after submission. They wanted to schedule surgery sooner than I did, but my kids will be on Spring Break so I opted for March 29. Best of luck to you!!

I am also getting a revision from the band, but going with sleeve. My insurance requires me to go thru the 6 months of supervised visits again. It sounds like a lot, but I'm already halfway through!

I had a revision on December 28,2015.It is the best decision. No more vomiting, gerd, weight gain, slippage, port site pain or protrusion etc.My RNY is great.Keep in mind the weight loss is slower with revisions but I feel great. My cravings for sweets are gone and I have never dumped.I feel so much better.Just went for my 3 month blood test this past week. Will keep you guys posted...

I feel great!!!

waiting to hear if a new group will see me. I faxed my medical records over to their clinic a week ago. fingers crossed that they accept in a new patient that they did not band. I am switching groups only for continuity of care . I would like all of my healthcare at once facility instead of many. Regardless of what I will be required to do , I am looking forward to a new beginning . My first step will be a phone call on Tuesday 04/05 that states the new surgeon will see me . FINGERS CROSSED

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
