Take your vitamins and supplements!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I had my gastric bypass October, 2013 and am down 260 pounds! I'm thrilled with the new me! I'm very strict with myself and take all my Vitamins and supplements every day.

However, I fell hard during our last snow storm and broke my left femur in FIVE places above my knee! I now have a plate, rod, and 9 screws in my leg and am off work recovering. I would hate to think what it could have been. So, the bypass surgery does weaken bones.

Be careful out there! I now have physical and occupational therapy coming to my house to strengthen my arms and legs but it really sucks!

Sorry to hear about your fall. When I was obese, I had a little extra padding, so when I fell, the damage was generally less severe. But after weight loss surgery I have to be more careful because the padding is gone. When we have freezing rain my steep driveway becomes a sheet of ice. I have fallen a couple times. The last time it happened, I resolved to solve the problem by purchasing a set of crampons (or ice spikes, ice cleats) that fit over my shoes. The metal grips into the ice and provides good traction on a sheet of ice. I haven't fallen since then.

. Thank you, James! I know what you mean about less padding now! I like your idea about the ice spikes! I'm going to look at Amazon for some!

I have 10 fractured vertebraes. My bones are brittle. I know this is from the surgery. I am having a horrible time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
