Had surgery a few days ago

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Monday and am home recovering. On the first day, I was groggy and disoriented. I slept most of the day, but I did get up to walk and I even did a little deep breathing/coughing. The second day, I walked more and did my breathing/coughing exercises. I was full of gas: I felt like a beached whale. I didn't have pain so much as discomfort in the hospital, from the gas and the incisions. They let me go home that day and I've been sleeping as much as possible ever since. I am so tired. Even to be up and awake for an hour takes so much out of me.

Painkillers make me vomit, so they gave me Tylenol and ibuprofen (super-strength IV formulations) in the hospital. At home, I've been taking regular ibuprofen and extra-strength Tylenol.

Today is Thurs, and the gas has gone down quite a bit. Hallelujah for that. Can't wait till it's all gone.

It is surprising and weird to only be able to drink a little tiny bit at a time. I'm not getting anywhere near 64 oz of liquids right now. Hoping to improve today!

I keep thinking, "What on earth did I do to myself?!"

Yep, Iam 3 days post op. Feeling better each day. Still learning all there is to experince. Slow going with Water conusmption and also very tired - in part form my pain meds. Stomach is still prety swollen and probably the most uncomfortable issue right now. Also a little odd sensation with urinating. Otherwise on my way to recovery!

I'm really shocked they have you on ibuprofen, especially so soon post-op.

Keep up with your sipping. I know it's hard. I found it a little easier if I marched in place while sipping. And as for being tired and napping a lot, that's perfectly normal. Just make sure you get up and move around every hour or two, if even for just a couple of minutes.

Yes why did I do this is foremost on my mind. It does get better. Hang in there. I am 6 days post op.

That and "will I ever feel normal again" were the two questions I was CONSTANTLY asking in those early days post-op. I promise, it gets MUCH better!

I am also suprised to hear that you are taking ibuprofen, That was on the list of definetly nots. My Doc said that I would not have lasted very much longer with the band, that it was very bad. I already feel no restriction or inflammation in my throat. Going from the band to the sleeve, I am ecstatic, even with the post surgery soreness and swelling.

Hope to see you are doing better in a few days!

Ibuprofen is def not good post op for any surgery! They should wrote you a script for a liquid pain med. and liquid Tylenol works good too.. Anyway, I'm 10 day post op today and am feeling pretty good! Just wait what one week will do wonders of resting and taking it easy and try to sip as much as you can! I can now do about 1 oz at a time for Soup and Protein... It will get better!!

Good luck

I am 4 years post op and it has been a huge worry that I have been taking children's luliquid IB once a day for nearly 3 weeks due to kidney stone inflammation. Like others are saying, I am shocked you are on IB newly sleeved.

I talked to the surgeon and anesthesiologist before surgery because I always get nausea and vomiting with narcotics. Rather than give me Zofran or something like it along with the narcotics, they gave me Tylenol and Ibuprofen both in the hospital (IV) and at home (OTC pills). Hasn't been a problem, but it is kind of odd since normally they have you stay away from IB.

When I drink, I feel gas bubbles in my stomach. Almost like the Fluid I'm taking in is displacing gas in my stomach. Feels very odd.

I'm having a hard time distinguishing between hunger, gas, and mild nausea. It all just feels so weird now.

I had mine on Monday too I wasn't released till early Wednesday. Since home I did have quite a bit of gas pain but it subsided the more I walked. I am not really in pain and have not taken any since Wednesday. I have been able to get all my Water in and all my Protein required at least 70 grams. I am gonna weigh my self today to see if I have lost any weight I am so ready to be over the liquid diet. Look forward to hearing ya'lls good experience.

I've got mixed blessings here. I never had a bit of gas pain or bloating. I did, however, get readmitted for five days because my hernia repair got so swollen that I couldn't get anything down. So I'm like a brand new postop now, even though I'm nine days out. I purposely pour myself only an ounce or two at a time, so I have to get up to get more. I'm taking only plain Tylenol (pills, the liquid is way too sweet for me). I even find Protein drinks too sweet, so I'm diluting it with Fairlife milk, which is nearly as high in Protein, and cuts the sweetness.

I certainly hope my staple line appreciates that I gave it a week to heal without putting anything in it!

I think I would call the surgeon. I didn't sleep much the day (night) that I spent in the hospital. But did sleep almost the entire first day home. However, the next day I went to an Easter party on a small family ranch and hung out all day and walked around a lot of the time. I do get a solid 8-10 hours of sleep each night but wake up rested and ready to go. I know that "normal" after this surgery is different for everyone but still worth checking out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
