excercise & work post gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering how long after being sleeved you were able to return to work ? I ask this as I want to have the operation but I have just started a new job so can't have to much time off. And also how long after the surgery people were able to return to exercising..... I know I really need to do this but have sooo many questions

Two weeks off from work for me -- I have a mostly desk job. I actually probably should have taken three weeks off as I was still exhausted and kind of scattered at two weeks.

Exercising -- your surgeon should give you instructions about when you can start exercising and what kind of exercising you can do. You can (and should) start walking immediately but anything involving the core is usually at least a few weeks out, and exercise involving weights is typically several weeks out. Good luck!

The packet that I got says that things like walking, exercise bike, and climbing stairs are okay, but abdominal exercise and lifting heavy things should be avoided for 6 weeks. Plan to ask some more detailed questions at my 3 week followup appt.

I took 10 days off. I also have a desk job and was okay going back, but in bed early (like 7 pm) every night due to fatigue. I started exercising about 7 weeks post-op and had no restrictions from my surgeon at that point.

My doctor's instructions: "No bending, twisting or lifting more than 20lbs in the first 3 weeks. Treadmill and Eliptical are the only equipment allowed." I stayed home 2 weeks, walked at least 15 - 45 minutes a day as soon as I was discharged from the hospital, tried to do too much housework (what housework doesn't involve twisting and bending?!) and probably should have taken an additional week off due to my physical job working with young children. I am 4 weeks out and still experiencing extreme fatigue and some large incision pain. Be kind to yourself. You are worth it.

I went back to work the second week after surgery. Left early a few times so in my opinion it was too soon. Still haven't gone back to my gym routine. 5 weeks out now. Waiting until my one month follow up next week

I went back to a desk job at one week, but was limited to 6 hour days for the first month, and I am glad. it was nice to get out and about, but equally nice to come home and rest, walk, and focus on my liquids and Protein. Wish I could stay on 6 hours for the next two months!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
