I was banded 4/19/07 and so far have been doing good. I went to the doctor about 7/7/07 with constant pain that I could feel a little bit above the long port incision where the port is located...It hurt worse when I walked moved or anything. So, he pushed on my port (about cried) and said to take Aleeve in the morning and one at night and if the pain was still happening to come back because port COULD be flipping. So it went away and about 2 1/2 weeks ago it started again, especally after I eat, I get a constant sharp pain around the port area that lasts for hours...does anyone know what could be causing this? My doc is off work and I have to wait until Wednesday, but kind of worried. I shouldnt have let it gone on this long, but dont want to hear bad news. :help:

Any suggestions or shared experiances are greatly appreciated!

Guest Band4EJ

I got banded on 2/7 and have been problem free to date, but I signed on here today to find out about port pain...so I am anxious to see what responses you get. I first noticed pain on either side of my port when I tried to sleep on my stomach last night. I am wondering if it could mean something serious or could it be something as simple as bumping too hard against something? I am a firefighter and sometimes get pretty banged up at work.

My port area was always sore. Always. Only when I went to get an unfill due to some major acid problems in the US last year (I was banded in Australia) did the doctor detect there being a problem with my port. He thought my port had flipped so I went in to have it fixed with surgery. When he got in there he could see that it wasn't flipped, but over a couple of years, had come unstitched so there was nothing behind it. Kind of like bobbing for apples if you know what I mean. The needle would just push the port because there was nothing behind it - it was floating, in a sense.

He replaced my port and put it in a more comfortable spot. I am aware of it still but it doesn't HURT like it used to. Putting it higher was a good move because the first one used to sit right where my waistband of my jeans would be. NOT good!!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
