Protein, protein, protein!

Recommended Posts

In 10days at this very time I will officially be in a new phase of my life thanks to my surgeon and my new sleeve. I am on a 1200 calories pre-op diet and trying to stick with mostly liquids. So my question is what were your favorite Protein Drinks? I like Premier Protein thus far and wanted a few suggestions so I can get some samples of other types to see what I like post op.

Bariatric Pal told me to try Unjury and nectar, and Bariatric Pal did not steer me wrong. I like them both in addition to Premier. Between the two brands, there are a lot of flavors to try - you can get sample pack of all the Nectar flavors from the Bariatric Pal Store and a sampler pack from Unjury's website to test them out without having to buy a whole can.

I am a fan of the Syntrax Nectars. They are available in single serve packets too, so you can easily try them before you buy a big tub. I like the single serve packets for the portability, and keep several flavors in my desk at work.

Unjury chocolate and Chocolate Truffle nectar have been my favorites up to this point. Chike coffee Protein is also pretty good.

Tonight I just bought some Syntrax Nectar sample packs from Vitamin Shoppe and I love them! So far I've tried the fuzzy navel flavor. Premier and muscle milk didn't sit too well in my stomach :(

Glad I saw this forum!

Unjury chicken Soup is good if you want a break from all the sweet. Oh Yeah Cookies and cream is also a fav of mine.

Thanks for the feedback! I am going to order the unjury and nectar variety packs this week so that I can try them out. Oh I found the nectar variety pack at https://www.smartbodynutrition.com/syntrax-nectar-protein-variety-pack.html for $20, which is cheaper than any other website I've seen thus far. Oh and for anyone that likes the Premier Protein....Sam's Club has a case for $14.98 until 3/27/16.

In addition to premier, Syntrax and unjury, I liked:

GNC Lean shake 25 (orange cream is my favorite);

ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrates;

ProtiDiet creamy chicken and Tomato basil soups;

WonderSlim dark chocolate pudding; and

ProtiDiet hot chocolate.< /p>

I was able to tolerate Protein drinks pre-op but now not so much. I purchased the Isopure unflavored Protein powder. 1 scoop 25g Protein and no taste. I mix it with 1% lactose free milk and sprinkle some sugar free hot cocoa mix and make my own chocolate Protein shake without the aftertaste. It is a lot more economical as well. Also add Protein Powder to Soup etc.

I am all about Quest Protein drinks and bars. I like the vanilla and add whatever extract to have: root beer, mint, rum, orange,, raspberry, lemon, anise, cherry, Peanut Butter, ...

get the idea? The salted caramel is good too, but not as an everyday--a bit too sweet.

The chocolate shake tastes just like a chocolate shake--image that! :)

I have a Quest bar for lunch on the days I swim. I like the numbers, but not as a daily thing.

GNC sells samples, which I think you are doing the right thing by purchasing those first.

Also with the Quest Protein, there are numerous recipes which are delicious. Even my grandsons love to eat them!

Good hunting and welcome!

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

        So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
