Hair loss help... Devastated

Recommended Posts

I keep telling myself that if my hair gets thin I can deal with it. Well, my hair has thinned quite a bit. I lose a hand full of hair every morning in the shower. Now I have been saying,

Ok, I can deal with this as long as I don't have bald Patches.

Honestly, I have been looking at wig websites, Raquel W. Has some real natural looking wigs.

It is, what it is, I just need to try to stay focused on the reason I had VSG on the first place.

I'm losing hair too :(

Just Biotin, Protein, and lots of hope.

Oh and dry shampoo! Dry Shampoo for sure. <3

@@Susan66 i am telling myself the same thing. man, has it really thinned. it is not the end of the world and no one knows but me. it is ok for now. however, i have to wonder what if i keep losing at this rate for 2-3 more months? i guess i will deal with it if that happens. it started falling out at 2 months and i am now at 5 months.

i know it is all worth it, but i really like having hair hahaha.

I feel your pain. Hopefully your will come back soon. A lot of people's hair comes back after their weight loss stabilizes and their body readjusts.

How much Protein to you get in each day? A lot of people have had good luck with increasing their Protein and or taking Biotin.

I was one of the less fortunate ones who despite taking in about 100 grams of protein, high dose Biotin, Vitamins and having normal labs my Hair loss continued. Even when my weight loss stopped and I was in maintenance it still continued. It was also dry, brittle, and broke off.

What helped me the most was I started taking a powdered marine collagen (ordered from Amazon) and I mixed it in my Water each day. That stopped about half of the loss. I then added a cup of bamboo tea each day (it is high in silica) and that helped the texture. It is much softer and not as dry.

Hang in there, yours may spring back. It still looks like you have some beautiful hair- even in the after picture!!

Glitter Eyes,

Thanks for suggesting collagen - this makes sense. I ran out and bought Neocell Super Collagen (powder). Hopefully it will help with my skin as well.

N~

I would say not to do weave while your hair is shedding/falling out, the weight of the weave makes the hair lose worse. If you really, can't stand how your hair looks, purchase a high quality lace front or full lace human hair wig to wear.

Thank you. That just may be my only option.

April Lace Wigs (http://www.aprillacewigs.com/) and RPGShow (http://www.rpgshow.com/) have great affordable wigs. You can find reviews on YouTube for some of their units.

I purchased this glueless unit (http://www.aprillacewigs.com/glueless-full-lace-wigs/134-italian-yaki-silk-top-bleached-knots-all-around-bw0080.html) from April Lace and I love the texture. It is comparable to relaxed African American hair.

I'm just Over 4 months out. I was so nervous about hair loss. Had no idea about it until I read in a blog somewhere that it happens.

I've never been a Protein eater. I preferred salty carbs. That being said at 4 months out my hair is actually thicker. I wasn't losing as much hair as I was before surgery.

I did notice a bit more coming out now, but with the Protein and Biotin my hair is still good.

We are supposed to lose about 70-100 strands of hair a day. So for those who use weaves. When you remove them those are the hairs you were going to lose anyway.

my hair is still falling out a lot. it is really starting to thin and be noticeable. it just freakin sux. still worth the surgery though. i am using nioxin consistently and will see if that helps. i dont think it will. i think if you are going to lose it you are just going to lose it. i do get 100 g of Protein a day but i have for at least 3 months now.

How much Biotin and Iron are you taking and is it at least 3 hours away from ingestion of any Calcium or dairy?

It's what's going on inside (vitamins and protein) more than outside (shampoo). Take care of you and get your labs checked[emoji6]

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
