9 pounds in two weeks and you are disappointed? What were you expecting?

I just looked it up and at two weeks post-op, I was down 7.4 pounds, so you are ahead of where I was. Meanwhile I'm now 18 months post-op, and have been maintaining below goal for over 6 months....

This is a marathon, not a sprint. The fact that I actually had to go back and look at the spreadsheet I kept as I was losing weight to tell you where I was at two weeks should tell you how meaningless it was in the long run. I promise you that 6 months from now, when you are down 40-50 pounds, you won't be looking back and lamenting the fact that you "only" lost 9 pounds the first two weeks.

I was sleeved on 2/17/2016, and at two weeks I was down 9 pounds too. By three weeks, I was down 15. I also noticed that the day after surgery, my weight was up 10 pounds because they fill you with saline solution and gas.

Give it time. You'll be fabulous. Your body is healing and working hard to metabolize the fat.

so many of us go through this same emotion at that time, it's just a lot of changes all at once, you kind of expect a big pay off, but keep on - it will get easier and the big pay off will come.

Yes I am almost 3 weeks out and have lost 5 lbs since surgery. I am excited about my 5. I don't compare my weight loss to others. I have been at same weight for @4 days now. Seeing the same number still doesn't discourage me because I know eventually the weight is going to come off. My focus is trying to reach Protein and Fluid goals. I haven't met both yet but that will happen too. I didn't get on scale once I got home from the hospital but I am sure I was at least 7-8 lbs heavier from iv fluids. So just keep doing what you are doing and stay off the scale if the number is going to discourage you.

I felt the same way. I'd lost 8 lbs in my first 2 weeks. The surgeon said there were a lot of fluids from IV & then swelling. I'm 8 weeks out now & have lost 50lbs w/ 2 stalls. Try your best not to worry about it--just make sure you are getting your Protein & liquids, along with your walking and your body will take care of the rest!

I was sleeved 2/23. Also hit a plateau a few days ago and haven't lost for 4-5 days. It's easy to have feelings of failure from past diets creep in and discourage me. I keep telling myself this time it WILL work. But patients is a difficult virtue for me so I can relate! Stay strong and remember why you did this.

i was sleeved the 25th. i happened to heal, reduce swelling very fast and have been loosing a pound a day. but because liquids go thru so fast i have dealt with a new kind of hunger/emptiness issues. docs staff has been helping me but its just like when your kid starts to read. you hear others reading much earlier than yours and get freaked but you know what? it doesnt matter in the end. slow and steady wins the race. this will mean nothing in six months. pat your self on the back for getting sleeved. you are a warrior!!!!

Just be sure you don't freak out if you stall in the next week or two. Almost everyone goes through the dreaded "Week 3 Stall" around this time. It doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. Your body just needs a second to sort itself out again.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
