RYGB reversal/revision into sleeve

Recommended Posts

I had my initial RYGB in September of 2003. My highest weight I was around 385. In the course of the first year I went down to 200 lbs. I was so excited and I thought I had found the magic pill and that I would keep losing. I platitude and then got pregnant with my son. The years later I had my daughter. For the next few years I went up and down between 240-275. I began to have complications and in and out of hospitals. I had a perforated ulcer, a hernia and small revisions to my pouch. Trimming down helped a little then I had more ulcers. Always in the same spot where the main connection to the pouch. Finally after a lengthy FMLA I lost my job and stayed immobile because of the pain of ulcers. My surgeon and I decided that the option of revision would be my best way to get back into a healthy more productive quality of life. My surgery is set for March 28,2016. The surgery will reverse the gastric bypass and then the get will create the gastric sleeve and remove any scarring and my stomach remains.

I will post more after the surgery.

Wow. You are the first person I've ever heard of revising from RNY to VSG. In fact, I think you are the first person I've ever heard of having their RNY reversed. I know they say that RNY is reversible and that's one of the reasons some people choose it over sleeve in the first place (since sleeve clearly isn't reversible), but I'd never heard of it actually being done! I am very curious to hear more about how your journey goes. I hope that you can be successful with your sleeve!

Wow I want to follow u too. I never knew it was reversible that's why I will try everything and anything before rny. I thought putting the band on rny was the only thing that can be done because my cousin had it done

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
