Walking in the first week

Recommended Posts

Hello. Today is my 1 week anniversary from getting the sleeve. I am feeling pretty good except for some burning/pain at my laparoscopic incision over my belly button. I am feeling cooped up inside walking 10 minutes every hour I side my house. Is walking ok outside for 30 minutes or so? I live up three flights of stairs as well. My dr said week 2 I can do treadmill. Did anyone else go for a longer walk your first week? Thanks!!

I have been at the gym on the elliptical for 60mins on a level 15 everyday since I came home from the hospital. I'm also post op 1 wk yesterday. I asked my surgeon before I left the hospital was this ok since it was my regular routine and she said it was fine. But she strongly advised against any lifting what so ever

My surgeon wanted us up to 10,000 steps/day ASAP. I stayed on the sixth floor of the Marriot when I had my VSG in Mexico. I used the steps rather than the elevator every time I went up and down. The Walmart plaza was a mile round trip walk from the hotel and I walked there twice/day starting the day after surgery. I paced the airport halls for over an hour waiting for my flight and walked through the SLC airport to the long term parking shuttle 3 days postop. Went shopping and drove 5 hours on day 4. Did nothing but couch surf day 5 and was back to work on day 7 which meant 10 hours mostly on my feet.

So the answer to your question is "yes"

I went for a walk. It felt great!! I know this sounds weird but I felt like today was the start of the rest of my life. Pushing myself to get up and move and go go go!

My surgeon requires a 30 minute walk everyday starting at day 3 post op. I walk outside since the weather is so nice right now, but i'm low on energy due to being on all liquid diet so I just make sure I have someone walk with me.

Sounds like I have been slacking compared to some of you guys ;-) ...will try to step up my walks! Fortunately early spring is here and the snow and ice are off the walkways, plus there is that feeling of spring renewal in the air that coincides well my own personal feelings of renewal as I shed extra pounds :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
