I had my Lapband put in Oct. 2005. Initially I lost between 50 and 60 pounds and eventually gained it all back. It really did me no good. Partially my fault too, not just the band. If it was "just a tool", I didn't think it was a very good tool. I am sittiting at my pre band weight. On March 23rd I will get the band removed and a VSG procedure done. I have been spending a lot of time online researching and reading. I am hoping to get helpful info here. I start my pre op diet this Tuesday.

My first question is: will I have to get a catheter put in? I have never had one and it seems like it would be painful.

Most folks don't require catheters, and if you did, they'd put it in after you were under anesthesia.

I had one with my RNY. They put it in while I was sedated. It was taken out the next day without any pain. Good luck!

Hi..I could have written this!

Scheduled for March 16th. And even during my lap band procedure, they put one in while I was under.

Good luck!

When I had the lap band done, the doc told me I didn't get a catheter, but, who knows, once you've gone under they can do what they want. When I had my band to sleeve revision they did put in a catheter, but, was done when I was under. I didn't have any after affects that I can recall.

Good luck! I just had my band out and sleeve completed a week ago on 2/26. No catheter here.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
