First steps of my journey

Recommended Posts

I got this app to see how others my age handled the surgury and to read some success stories. Everyone is so friendly, I feel like I have joined a community. I feel obligated to introduce my self and the beginning of my journey.

so, hi! My name is Jackki-Ryann and I am eighteen years old. I was a relatively thin child and didn't start gaining weight until I hit purberty. So at about twelve years old. Once I was in high school I weighed over 230lbs. I tried diet plans, I got a trainer, I did zumba, But things got expensive and nothing seemed to stay off. By the time I graduated I was at my heaviest 285lbs. I've highly considered surgury since I was sixteen. Now that I feel this is the best option for me, and i have saved up enough money. I am very excited to say that I just have to confirm my appointment for early may.

@@ryannryann I'm certainly older than you, but I wanted to welcome you to BariatricPal. We do have some younger members who have been sleeved or are considering it in their late teens/early 20's, so you are not alone. I hope you are able to find the information and support you are looking for here.

@@ryannryann - I am old enough to be your grandmother, but I wanted to welcome you to the family...pull up a chair, sit down and hold-on for a wild ride!

Hey Jackki! You definitely aren't alone on this journey! I'm 19 and just had my sleeve done on the 28th of June. So it was only a few days ago, things are going quite well so far and are a lot more manageable then I expected them to be. If you'd like to keep in contact that'd be awesome!

Hey y'all. I'm MiAsia. I'm 18 years old and I was sleeved exactly a week ago. (7/15/16) I'm only one week end but I'm already 24.5 pounds down!(:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
