Hi all,

I was recently sleeved (10 Feb) and am having great problems getting my liquids in. Drinking plain Water makes me feel like I have indigestion and no matter how little I eat (around 1 tablespoon of purée per meal at this stage) I get the same reflux/indigestion feeling. I take medication for reflux so I find this really strange. I feel miserable and exhausted. Has anyone else experienced similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

I certainly understand what you are going through.

Right after surgery plain Water was the hardest thing for me to drink, too.

You need to keep trying different things to see what works. Try different temperatures: ice cold, room temperature, warm, and hot. Try water enhancers. Try herb or Decaf teas. Try infusing water with something like cucumber or ginger. Try sugar-free Popsicles and sugar-free Jello. Try crushed ice.

Staying hydrated is critical. So is getting in enough Protein. Fortunately, most surgeon's allow you to count all liquids, including Protein shakes toward the Fluid total.

Keep sipping. You will get there.

I defiantly have to use Water enhancers. Plain water is hard on my sleeve even all these years later I can experience water nausea.

I remember drinking warm water. Somehow seemed less shocking to the sleeve.

Good luck. The energy lag is temporary. [emoji847]

I'm not a Water drinker. Never have been, probably never will be. We have Sulphur Water and although it is very healthy for one, this one can't stand the smell of it.

I drink Decaf peach tea and remember doing so right from the start. I also drank clear berry flavored Protein drinks. They are a wee bit syrupy, but better than water---and you're getting added Protein.< /p>

Good luck and keep on sipp'n. You'll get this!

I was sleeved on 5 Feb and coped ok with my fluids (mostly Soups & milk drinks)

However, I ended up in hospital a week after coming home from surgery due to dehydration! I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks so was hard to drink your meals and then drink fluids for hydration.

When I came out of hospital after being rehydrated, my surgeon suggested drinking hydralyte as that has electrolytes in it which is more beneficial than just plain Water. And like others have suggested, try flavouring your Water. I have had no issues with the taste of water just hard to be sip, sip, sipping all day to get it in! Plus not drinking for 30 minutes before or after eating so there is 1 hour lost each time you eat!

On my plan, we are allowed to have zero calorie flavored drinks (Propel, Sobe, Crystal Light, etc). Those saved me.

Powerade Zero is a big help for me, flavor wise and for the electrolytes to avoid dehydration.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
