Fell off the bandwagon. Maybe I'm not ready for this

Recommended Posts

:rain:I've been on a high Protein, low fat , no sugar diet for about a month now. I passed nutrition 3 weeks ago and have been left to fend for myself ever since. Over the last week or so I've begaun to sneak in no-no foods and today I just totally fell off.(I have kept up with my workout though, that why I haven't gained any of the weight back that I've lost so far.) I meet with the surgeon on next week and I'm afraid that he'll say I'm not ready for the band. This is the last step in my journey b4 insurance so I'm just really getting depressed. :cry Any advice... should I just forget about banding? I know the band is a tool and I have to have the disipline to make it work but it seems like I don't have that.

Oh well..Thanks for listening (well reading):think

It's just one day. We're all human. Just jump back in with both feet tomorrow and keep rolling. You'll be fine.

Remember, the eventual goal is to eat like a "normal" person -- and that does include the occasional rare treat.

thanks Manatee,

I just feel so bummed out right now, but you're right. I think I'm just scared cuz this is usually the beginning of going down the wrong food path. I just hope I can get myself together. Thank again

None of us could do this without the band, that's why we're banded!

Some of us could try harder, be more positive, and stick at it longer than others could but we're all failed dieters here. Dont be so hard on yourself!

When you have your band, you WILL be able to do it. Well, you'll probably fall off the wagon many times, like most of us have. But its not so far to fall and its ever so much easier to get back on.

Take a deep breath and get back on the wagon. Falls happen, it what you do to get back to eating well that will define your success.

You'll find falls will happen less frequently with time...

Be kind to yourself.

I have fell off the wagon so many times even with the band BUT I always get myself back on track. Grant you its not easy sometimes but the band does work and it will HELP you stay on that wagon longer.

Sbee,

I really appreciate you posting this, because I'm post-vacation and so bummed. I was away for three weeks, and we either had to eat out a lot, or the people we were with were terrible eaters (heavy grease, old food, etc.), so I ended up eating out some more. I was fairly active, but I came home with a 9-pound weight gain. If that's not bad enough, I CANNOT get back on track. I'm scared to post this, because I don't want a gazillion lectures, etc. I've been banded since December of '06, and I know what to do. Why am I having such a hard time getting back to doing what's right? Could anyone else, who has had this happen, share what toasted their Buns back to eating like a bandster?

Thanks.

Thanks everyone for helping me get through this bad patch. I've gone back to journaling my food which has helped me and although I'm not totally back on yet. I'm still hanging on, I've been in to many tempting situations the last few day (My mom baked 4 dozen Cookies for my kids and I can't stay away) Anyway, still working out and eating better (just had a salad).

And to theboincbroad, just take it one step at a time. Try writing down what you eat and planning you meals for a while, that's what I have to do, and I'm not as likely to snack. Hang in there, I am confident that you will get back on track.

Help please! I was banded on July 23rd and have already cheated with solid foods, not a lot, but some. I get my first fill on Aug. 21st and am looking forward to truly being restricted! Have I already failed? Or have I messed up my surgery by cheating? Again, please help!

I agree the fall is nothing with the band as compared to before! To be honest, I have fallen off the wagon since being banded---I will even admit to jumping off a couple of times, but with the help of the band, and the positive reinforcement of the steady weight loss, I manage to climb back up and off we go again!!!

Hang in there, you realized what happen, you admitted what happen, you are seeing the triggers, and fighting to overcome them---that sounds like amazing progress to me, especially without the help of a band!!!!

Kat

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
