just booked my revision to mbp surgery in mexico

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve done in Mexico in 2011 and found out it was stretched. I've had regained some weight and have acid reflux. Even though a surgeon here in the U.S. said it was necessary my insurance denied the revision because of my bmi and because I never did the 6 month supervised diet. So I'm headed back to Mexico for a revision to mini bypass. I'm nervous but excited also.

Congratulations on a second huge healthy choice. I hope the surgery goes well, your reflux goes away and you get your goal weight. When is your surgery?

March 31. I hate that I need a second surgery but it has helped to get back on here and see that I'm not the only one.

I totally understand, I have had 3 ! I hate the way that it sounds and I know there is sometimes judgement, but I had to do what was right for me. Looks like you have chosen a great surgeon, I'm sure all will be great! Best of luck and keep us posted !

Just an update: I had my mini bypass but my surgeon had an emergency that day, his appendix ruptured and had to have surgery himself. Dr. Zivalza stepped in and did my surgery. The first couple of weeks I was sore and really tired but I was able to go back to work after just two weeks. I lost 17 pounds right away (one week preop and two weeks post op) and then hit a stall after week two. Week 3 and 4 post op I've only lost about 2 pounds. But I'm losing inches and feeling better every day.

Sure thing.. Banded in 2007, lost 100lbs kept it off for the most part. Got sick of living feeling stuck and never eating and worried about long term damage so I revised to sleeve and immediately gained 30 lbs! The sleeve was much "looser" than my band and I found myself able to eat anything after years of restriction. Revised to mgb last April and I'm happy to be back on track. About 8 lbs from goal.

The mini bypass is a simpler safer surgery than the full bypass with the same or better results long term. Instead of a pouch the mini uses a sleeve and only one anastomosis instead of two. So you get the restriction and less absorption

I’m just wondering how you’re doing after all of this time. Did you have more long term success with the MGB vs the sleeve?

Sorry I never saw this post from you. I did pretty good weight wise but have had horrible acid reflux that the mgb was supposed to fix but for me it didn't. So here I am about to have a revision to full bypass because I can't take the reflux any longer.

the mgb was $5800 and the rny will be $6400 (normally 6900). It's Dr. Illan in Tijuana.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
