Curvy girl clothing issues...HELP!

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a brand of jeans that don't gap in the back. I normally wear Lane Bryant's T3 (tighter tummy technology) jeans. Now that I am down to a sz 14 and still shrinking I can't fathom paying nearly $80 for a pair when I will size out of them soon enough. My problems with jeans is that I have a smaller waist and big butt and thighs, so regular jeans ALWAYS gap in the back. Lane Bryant has solved that problem for me the majority of my life. I am on my way to sizing out of the company entirely and need new options. I recently tried Old Navy as I saw they have styles for the "curvy" girl and are roughly $25.00...no such luck as they gap as well. Any one else have the 'gap in the back' issue...what brand of jeans do you buy/wear to combat this?

You know you can have them altered? Your local drycleaner or seamstress can put a couple darts in the back and voila! No gapping!

Old Navy jeans fit me horribly too. I have a pair of 14 skinny jeans that I got at Walmart that are midrise and don't gape... I don't recall the brand, but they were under $20. Great with boots. Great price, and just right for a transitional piece.

I found two pair at Catos that were on sale for like $15 (and super cute with bling pockets) that fit great. I really think it is best to just go try on stuff. We are all built so different, but I also carry more weight in my butt and thighs. Just remember that a 14-16W size is cut much different than a 14 or 16 Misses, so trying on is really the best way to find what fits your new size. Go explore.

I also have a small waist and a comparatively big butt, and believe me I feel your pain with most jeans not fitting at all! If they fit my rear end, I have a big waistline to swim around in. In fact, this is true for almost all pants for me, not just jeans.

Kohl's has a house brand of jeans & stretch denim pants that fit me perfectly, and they cost about $20 each, maybe $25 if you don't find them on sale. The thing is that these are elastic waist, so maybe not the most fashionable -- but I don't like to tuck my shirts in any way, so no one knows. I love them and get lots of compliments on them.

Decades ago, when I last wore jeans, I had the best luck with Lee Jeans. I used to always have the issue of larger hips vs. narrower waist. I am sure a lot has changed but you might want to give them a try.

I love good will and if you have them, uptown cheapskate for jeans. They are a lot cheaper and usually all broken in! I have the opposite problem..I have a straight up and down body, with skinny legs. I used to wear mens jeans all the time because I was built like a man, but now they rise too high up for me and don't fit me right. I wear a size 12, but a lot of times have to go with a 14 because my waist is only 2 inches smaller then my hips and I am only 5 foot 2. So I get baggy butt syndrome. haha! I wish I could transfer some fat from my saggy boobs to my butt....

I agree, Lee Jeans fit really well and get nice and soft with age.

Old Navy used to have a "Diva" cut jean and those were my go to. Sadly I recently learned they were discontinued and I'm about to fall out of my last fitting pair :'(

Ashley Stewart Jeans. They have a lot of stretch and are designed for curvy women. The 5 pocket jeans are normally 32.50 but if you sign up for emails they have sales all the time.

Cello jeans are cheap. I got a pair at Ross for $19.99, they are usually around $30 at most stores.

If you shop at macys' and you have coupons. You can sometimes get $70 jeans for $10-20 when they are on sale and you use coupons. I have good luck with American Rag and Rocks and Indigo.

Also try the skinny jeans at Forever21 plus. And Charoltte Russe plus sizes.

I have better luck with curvy skinny juniors plus than with normal plus sizes right now. My waist is really small, and my hips and butt are not.

You are going to have to go to the stores and try everything on though. I find my size varies a lot from brand to brand and even sometimes from the fit.

Also try high waist skinnys, I have good luck with those.

Also Jeggings work. I hate jeggings beause of the fake front pockets but they fit great and make your butt look great.

Try Lola jeans. Some have a tummy control fabric like pregnancy jeans. Very comfortable and stretchy.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
