Dinning Out for the first time...

Recommended Posts

Tonight was my first night eating out after having surgery about 1 ½ months ago and I ate three scallops and literally thought I was going to vomit. Omg the discomfort I felt was something I never want to feel again. I know I probably should have chewed more and took my time but now I'm a nervous wreck I did damage to the sleeve. I never want to go to another restaurant again!!

Deep breaths. It will pass. The only way you know the limits is to try. I've eaten too fast and tried foods off of the allowed list and suffered. You'll feel better soon. Hang in there!

I completely understand.

Eating too fast can do it every time.

You'll learn to measure it out with your eyes first....and only eat the amounts that you should be at the various stages of your progress.

You'll also learn to pace yourself through each meal.

Getting full sucks. I try to never do it. Slow....steady....chew like hell and be the person who carries the conversation around the table.

It takes a while before I was comfortable at meals in resturants. I much prefer sitting at their bars where it's more interactive with bartenders and TV's. I try to choose places that have a decent bar area.

Well tonight was the first time I have every felt like that. This is hard and I can't fall asleep now because I think I messed something up with my sleeve. I truly am having such a hard time with the chewing I do so good when I am home with the measuring it's the whole chewing part.

Your sleeve reacted to too much too fast. Three scallops isn't going to break anything. I just went for my 3 month follow up appt with the surgeons office and have been cleared to eat anything. At 6 weeks I was still on puréed and soft foods. Scallops aren't soft and flaky like fish so they would be harder to break down even if you had chewed them a lot. Take it slow and easy. There is no rush. At 6 weeks I went to a Christmas party at Olive Garden and the chef was kind enough to purée the minestrone Soup for me. It was delicious and I took home 1-2 more meals as leftovers.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
