I'm just wondering what the next step in the process is...Through Uhc I have no supervised diet requirements & have already met with my NUT and am expected to meet her again on the 14th (she wants us to lose 14 pounds by then, I've lost 12 already). I also met with the doctor who ordered a sleep apnea test & X-rays and all my blood work...then on the third I meet with my surgeon for the first time, I'm wondering what that appointment is for since I'll be done with all requirements by March 14th...I'm getting so anxious!

Your surgeon will probably want a duodenoscopy (EGD) and an upper GI X-ray. I had to see a gastroenterologist for the EGD. Your surgeon may want a final set of blood work and a preop clearance from your primary doctor within 30 days of your surgery.

Good luck!

My surgeon told me that since this is basically an elective surgery they check everything. I had a chest xray, ekg, sleep study, psychological evaluation, several meetings with a nutritionist. Then i had to go to a cardiologist over something in my ekg, a pulmonologist over my sleep study, a hemotolgist over something in my blood....they were very thorough

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
