Day 2: hoping it gets better?

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve on 2/18 in the afternoon. Discharged 24 hours later.

- slight fever of 100.2 but not the aches or chills so I'm guess it's my body's inflammatory response? Discharge orders say to contact Doctor if above 101.

- still hard to drink. Water hurts even if in small swallows. Normal?

Guess just feeling scared.

I was sleeved 2/9 and I just want to say that it gets better. Each day you will begin to feel better, try to get in as much Fluid and Protein as you can as it's definitely necessary. Your body may not like Water right now, mine didn't - I ate lots of crushed ice and used poweraide zero.

I was also sleeved on the 18. The Water was very difficult for me, but is slowly getting better. Make sure you're walking for the gas pain. And I'm taking the smallest sips. Thursday and Friday were very rough for me but I woke up today feeling much better.

I promise, it will get better. You may find that warm liquids go down easier than cold ones. Try some warm broth if Water isn't working for you right now, SF popsicles can also help.

I promise, each day will get better!

The Water is sooooo hard at first for all WLS surgeries for sure. You might consider getting some Isopure Protein Water (usually stocked in a cooler at GNC) it's a zero carb crazy high Protein clear water that I absolutely swear by. I figured if all I could do is tiny sips I may as well get in some kind of protein too . Oh and a 20oz bottle has 40g protein do even if it takes a couple days to get through that's ok. I wish they had stuff like this when I had my original RNY in 2002!!

Ask your medical team if it's okay if course. Good luck and happy trails!

It gets so much better! I had mine on Jan. 25, and struggled the first few days, but not feel almost normal again. Once the stomach swelling goes down it will be much easier!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
