IRL Support?

Recommended Posts

How many of you attend "IN REAL LIFE" support groups after banding? I visited a group last week that meets monthly. I was delighted it was a LB group and not WLS tossed together. I guess there are new topics each month. Whatever helps - I'm there!!!

It was nice to see others "in process" of losing... 2 were about at goal, 1 newly banded and one not showing much progress after a year...

I haven't done this. My doc is 5 hours away so I can't attend his support groups that he hosts. I considered looking around my area for a group but not so sure I would like that. I'm pretty shy so I don't think discussing how large I am is going to help that :0) My DH and BFs are really supportive of me during all of this so I'm not feeling lost. And of course, I read on this forum all the time.

This group is the BEST 24/7 support group possible... :) yeah, 5 hrs is a bit of a hike for a session, unless you travel there for fill days... maybe schedule around that?

I thought about trying to schedule around a meeting. They only do the support thing on the weekend. And then they only do fills Tuesday-Thursday. No great way to get all that together.

One of the guys I work with, his wife had this done about a month before me. I check in with him to see how she's doing and ask lots of questions. We've gotten together for lunch and talked about it as well. So maybe that's my mini support group :0)

I go to mine. They do it monthly. They send the newbies there too as a requirement before they'll schedule appointment pre-op. I like going. You don't have to talk if you don't want and there are great stories. Nice to see people in the same boat as you! Plus I've made some friends at the pre-op classes that it's nice to catch up with.

Wombat... you and the wife of your co-worker can be the pioneers and role models for all the LB's to come in your area : )

Cyndilou... it was a requirement for me too, and I did enjoy it.

The "team" also offers monthly speakers --- and the next one deals with getting and keeping your head in the game... (psychiatrist)... He's supposed to be an excellent speaker - so I'll be going to that too!

I'm lucky to be close to all of this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
