****TMI WARNING****

Recommended Posts

You have been warned!

So I started my period 1 week before surgery I have been flowing for 22 days. I'm tired of it. Anyone else go through this? I have a lady doc appointment Monday but good grief enough already.

I didn't experience that issue myself (I'm on Seasonale, so only have periods once every 3 months), but I have read posts from others about having heavier or longer periods than normal post-op, so I don't think it's that unusual. Don't panic, but I do think it's good you have an appointment with your OB/GYN coming up.

I have also read that whenever you have a large quick weightloss it releases hormones stored in the fat cells. This in turn can affect your period. I have heard of women that recently went through menopause getting their period back for a few months during their heaviest weight loss after WLS.

I would still go to an OB/GYN as they may be able to do something to lessen the flow. You don't want to become anemic, plus it is just a pain in the butt to have it that long.

My period has been regular but it has been an extra two days each month and VERY heavy. I am anemic. I am pretty sure it is a combination of the weight loss and being peri-menopausal. I need to see a GYN since I think the very heavy periods is causing or at least contributing to the anemia.

I have been having the same issues as you..I had my surgery 12/22/15, and still am on period. Its really annoying just worried when it will stop since I'm anemic.

I had a short period show up for no good reason...(have not had one for a year) right after surgery. Hormones are being released from fat cells, I guess. Since then, back to menopause... yay!

I started mine the day of surgery (I was due around then) and it lasted about a day longer than normal, but nothing extreme. I guess this is something I'll keep an eye on for next month? Pleas let us know what your doctor says!

I'm actually opposite. I had my period like 5 days after my surgery then I haven't had it since except for a day or 2 right before I restarted my birth control and a day or 2 after I started the pills. I'm not pregnant, my body just doesn't want to bleed apparently.

My period was all crazy after surgery too. The first one I got was about 1 week after surgery, and it was days and days of old, brown blood. Then, 2 weeks after that I got it again and it was heavy and lasted way longer than usual.

Our bodies go through so much with this surgery, it's pretty normal for things to be outta whack for a while

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
