Banded 1/21 (4 days) and the shoulder pains are STRONG at night. They don't seem to be that bad during the day when I'm busy, but maybe I don't notice it. I read that it should go away in less than 72 hours.

Yes, I am walking and taking gas x but nothing. Anything else to help? How long has everyone else's been lasting? I also had a pretty bad hiatal hernia that they had to repair which might have made it worse?

I remember those days! I'm 3 years post now, BTW. I remember standing in my kitchen thinking what in the world have I done to myself I had hurt so badly. My pre op story was much like yours, banded with significant hernia repair. It took me about a week to feel better and then another week for me to tolerate a full day of work. It was a process, but it took some time to get over the surgery! Good luck. If the pain persists longer than that, I would certainly be in touch with my surgeon!

I asked my daughter to karate chop my neck and upper back several times a day. Another poster recommends windmill arms. It's trapped gas that needs motion and time to dissipate. Good luck.

Also, mine took longer than a few days to go away. But every day got a little bit better.

I was banded 5/22/15 and I still get that left shoulder pain every so often and wonder is this ever going to completely quit? Does anyone else still get pains?

My surgery was 5 days ago. I had uncomfortable shoulder pain the first couple of days. I used a heating pad and that helped. Nothing I couldn't handle. Still flairs up a little bit, but not too bad.
My middle is still tender. Hurts when I cough or burp. I am hoping all of this is temporary.

I am 4 days post op and having horrible shoulder pain at night, and tonight, it was in both shoulders and my chest. It actually brought me to tears. The heating pad does work a bit. I really hope this goes away soon. It helps to see I'm not alone in this experience. I am going to try doing windmills too.

Getting up and walking around helps. sleep more sitting up than you usually would.

The physiotherapist at the hospital also gave me deep breathing exercises. Take a really deep breath, deep as you can and then just a bit more, hold for a few seconds and then breathe all the way out.

I have had my lap band for 6+ years. Whenever I have an empty stomach I can feel some left shoulder pain. It is a referred pain from my diaphragm being irritated. I am convinced that the pigtail or the port itself is somehow causing this. Or it could be trapped gas building up too because belching (which I do a lot) does help alleviate the pain some.

There were many times the pain was nearly unbearable. My doctor was useless....said he never heard of this and referred me to a pain clinic. I never went back to him again after that. I live with the pain and have gotten used to it. It does not get horribly bad anymore just a minor annoyance.

Even after all the issues with this pain and other stuff like "getting stuck", port discomfort when I bend over, etc., I still would not give up my band. It has kept me from gaining weight due to eating too fast. I eat very slow....chew incessantly, and get full a lot quicker than I would without it. However, I still have to diet and exercise to lose more weight. That is something that is lifelong. I weighed 253# when I first had my band placed. I got down to 200# after the surgery and stayed there for years until I gained 20# over the last two years somehow. Now I weigh 185# since I diet and exercise some.

I have no desire to get any more fills. I feel like I am restricted enough and know this when I get "stuck" which still happens often enough and sometimes at the most inconvenient times like at a restaurant. This usually happens when I am so hungry and I gulp or not chew well enough. This is my painful reminder to SLOW DOWN and CHEW. If I was any tighter I would fear getting stuck all the time.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
