When were you told you could take a bath or get in a jacuzzi?

Ooh, good question. Haven't asked my dr. that one. Will ask on next visit, waiting for answers here as well.

I was told about 4 weeks out. After the incisions are healed.

It is not quite the same but I was given clearance to use the outdoor (public) pool at 2 weeks.

3-4 weeks (after incisions fully healed) for baths and swimming. 6 weeks for hot tubs & jucuzzis due to high heat could make you woozy while you adjust to your new weight/body.

Bath is once all the wounds have healed. Jacuzzi I wanted a while - maybe 3 months since the chemicals aer strong and might still get into the wounds. Just to be safe...

I was told anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. Giving time for incisions to heal properly. I also had the surgical glue on my wounds instead of staples to reduce scaring. So for the few weeks I had to take showers and put tape and plastic over the wounds to not get them wet.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm dying to get into my jacuzzi tub with these cold nights.

I'm so jealous you've got a Jacuzzi to look forward to!!! That would be heavenly. When I take a bath my tummy and chest are exposed, so I can't get that full immersion. Hopefully after a few months I'll be able to sink my skinny body in my bath.

You know its been a year for me and I have yet to actually sit in a normal tub and just take a bath. I use to hate not being able to submerge in the Water without it either A., overflowing out of the tub onto the floor, or B. when I got to big to even fit in a tub. I may try it one day just to see how it feel now almost 336lbs lighter than I was 17/18 months ago.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
