I am 5 days banded (8/1) and still on clear liquiods. My doc says Clear Liquids for a full week, then full liquids for another week before puree. I am dying for a yogurt or some cottage cheese. I am having a real hard time trying to keep my blood sugar up. I am diabetic (was?) and I am off all meds as of the day of my surgery. Very scarey. I am feeling really good today, even took a trip to Starbucks to meet a friend. Still sore, but other than that, trying not to nap as much so that I can sleep thru the night. No pain meds today either.:whoo:

You might have a good point there Homew6kids... your children keep each other busy mine do to a point. But all in all 1 or 12 they do all gang up on you..lol.

Wilem Congrats.. you will do great!

As for the pooping.. I haven't been able to go I think I will take that prune juice 3x a day trick and see if it works. I feel good other than this pain in my left arm like a gas pocket that can't be moved... I can't lift my arm.. it's killing me. I've been walking to try to release the gas but so far it's content to stick with me. Damn Gas!

Other than that I feel good... I'm not as sore today .. I went for a fifteen min. brisk walk earlier and will do it again once it's less humid out later.. to make up my 30 mins for the day.

I've been using the GNC Isopure vanilla Protein powder. I make a fruit smoothie in the morning consisting of 1 cup of skim plus milk, 1 scoop of Isopure, and 2 tbls. of strawberries. I mix it smooth and drink 1/2 then save half for a morning snack.

As of yesterday I lost 6 lbs since Wednesday I was happy with that.

BTW, How do you get those ticker things for your posts?

1st day full liquid, I just took my chewable multi, my Iron, and my folate. each w/ small sips of my Protein Drink made in my new, fabulous Magic Bullet. I have a feeling that was a good investment.

But anyway, I feel like my vits and minerals are stuck in my back. Or perhaps it's acid reflux, or perhaps ...who knows. What a fun guessing game.

Well I think I need to spread-out my pills throughout the day. Live and learn. Great idea about the prune juice. I'll get some but I have very tight sphincters and don't expect to poop for awhile between the angst and bthe pain meds. Are you still on pain meds? How long are people on pain meds?

Rhanks in advance for responses.

Ellen

I was on liquid oxycodone (sp) for days 1-3. Day 4 I was on Tylenol and yesterday...NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! Yeah. I even drove to the grocery store last night. It is day 6 for me and I am officially down 10 lbs. I hope this is an indication of success.

I bought one of Miracle Blender......(version of Magic Bullet).....and I LOVE it.....I've been on full liquids since Saturday and I'm having fun experimenting with shakes.......for one of my shakes yesterday I did 1/2 scoop chocolate Protein powder, 1/2 cup milk, 1tsp vanilla extract, 2 tsp Decaf instant coffee........and blend.....YUMMY......this morning I did 1/2 scoop vanilla Protein Powder, 1/2 cup milk, 1tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp coconut extract, 1/2 tsp banana extract.....and blend......YUMMY too!!

I'm feeling pretty good....I only take pain meds at bedtime......since it's sore to more around in bed.....during the day I'm feeling pretty normal.....just still a bit tired. I went shopping for a couple hours yesterday......bought my hubby a charcoal smoker for his birthday.......

Looks like I've lost 8 lbs since my surgery a week ago.....that's seems a tad fast......but I suppose you lose a lot of Water in the beginning......I can see the weight loss in my face a little......

Hope you all all recovering well and feeling devine............

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
