Scared to weigh tomorrow....

So mondays are my official weigh days. I try to stay off the scale (I don't own any, work at a doctors office and use those) except for one day a week. I had surgery 12/28 and last week I didn't lose any from the week before. I was on my cycle, and I"m hoping that was the issue... but I'm honestly scared to weigh tomorrow and not see the numbers the dropped.

I know that is ridiculous, and that this isn't all about the numbers, but I don't want to feel defeated if it stays the same. I am getting my Protein in, all the Water I can (which some days is below what I should be... but 99% of the time I get it and then some). I also started working out this weekend, I'm hoping that will make a difference.

I know this forum is full of "stall" posts and I'm sorry to add to that... I just worry about getting down on myself.

No what you are feeling is common. I do recommend taking measurements if you haven't already. It is a much better indicator that the numbers.

And during my TOM, I skip that week to weigh-in because I know what happens.

It will come off, keep up the work.

I haven't taken measurements yet. I will do that this week. I can tell I've lost some. It's hard to notice.

I also didn't take proper before pictures, which I regret big time now.

You're about to enter a very rewarding weight loss phase. The surgery traumatizes your body and it takes a few weeks to get all the IV fluids out of your body and let the surgical swelling heal.

I predict you'll be happy tomorrow, but if not, very soon!

Thank you!! I keep hearing about people losing in this first weeks and I just want to be one of them!

Just remember slow and steady wins the race. I know that sounds cliche but it really is the truth.

I happen to be a daily weigher. I had to learn early on that the scale is simply 1 barometer in how you are doing. I focus more on how I feel and how my clothing fits. The weight on the scale is simply there to keep me focused.

This is funny but there are days when I know that scale is not going to move or might even move slightly in the wrong direction. I simply tell myself not to expect anything or to expect bad news. Then when I lose I am surprised.

You literally have to be ok with what the scale says.

Also during long stalls (my longest was 28 days), after the first week or two of a stall I will try not to get on it if for some reason that stall starts to get to me.

I learned early on there is really nothing you can do to change the stall, your body simply needs time to adjust.

I will bet that you have lost some this last week, but if not next week is another week.

I am literally 8lbs from my goal of 165 and this method has worked for me. I am also 16 months post op and down 137lbs. I lost quite a bit early on but them slowed to a crawl at about 8 months post op. I am still losing between 5 to 8 lbs per month and am thankful. If I had all my loose skin removed I would be very close to the bottom of the BMI chart for my height.

You have a few options: You can worry about it. You can decide to accept that whatever the scale says tomorrow is just a number. Or, you can just not weigh tomorrow.

Until you have been at this a while you may not yet be used to seeing the scale move downward after a stall so I can understand your fear. I know for me, in the past when I was dieting, there was always a time when the scale eventually started moving in the wrong direction so that may be what you are bracing yourself for.

Believe it or not, even if in the short term the numbers on the scale fluctuate a little or stalls for a while, you will see the numbers drop as long as you do your part and follow your plan.

One of these days you may actually start looking forward to your weekly weigh in.

I got an app called "my weight" I have entered in the numbers every day since pre-op, and when my scale doesn't go down that day...i look at my app and feel satisfied that my overall weight number is down. Just an idea...

I get frustrated when I don't lose for 2-3 days. I had rny bypass on December 29th, so I'm still in pain. The numbers really do make the pain worth it. That's my truth.

Thank you everyone for the positive comments.... I weighed, down 3 pounds. Not as much as I was hoping, but as one of my best friends says (he had the surgery) those are three pounds that are gone. 3 less to worry about. So, even thought it isn't exactly what I was hoping for, I am happy. I'm down to 238, I haven't been in the 230's since college, and that was a long time ago! Celebrating every victory, no matter how small.

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
