@@Miss Mac 's advice is great. I'm betting that measuring your food accurately every time you eat something is going to be very educational.

Great conversation

I enjoy reading the veterans helpful advice to someone who is struggling.

Other people may need similar advice and just not ask for it.

I find these boards to be a very helpful community... And lots of informed, kind contributers.

I am so sorry your Dr. treated you that way. What a jerk! I went to a diet doctor pre op who fired me as a patient when I cried after only losing 10lbs in 4 months even though I'd exercise 1 to 1 1/2 hours every day, gave up carbs and alcohol etc. What I notice in your last post is a lot of cheese. Try cutting out the cheese. You might be lactose intolerant. Could be causing the Constipation. Also, my NUT has me communicate by email. Maybe you can scan your food log and email to NUT and get a quicker response than waiting until Feb. Good luck from fellow slow loser but I'm plugging at it. I've lost more than I would have without surgery.

Your surgeon deserves a trip out to the woodshed for talking to you that way.

You can help us help you if you can tell us what guidelines you were given for your intake at this stage - how much Protein, Fluid, calories, etc. Were you given a calorie guideline? Any information helps.

I agree totally with the weighing and measuring, and including in your journal how foods are prepared.

What a jerk. I don't know where you live but here in the Dallas area there are WLS support groups. I find the one I go to very helpful. Hang in there. This is not an easy way to loose weight. I find carbs are an issue for me.

I’m sorry. Your surgeon is completely out of line, to say the least. What a jerk! That would be absolutely unacceptable behavior even if you WERE losing at a disappointing rate…but you’re not!

You lost 20 lbs in six weeks since your surgery November 29?? That’s something to be proud of, and we’re all here celebrating with you, even if your surgeon is too rushed or disappointed to do so.

Regarding Constipation and vitamins: yes, if your surgeon won’t help, your regular doctor should, and can probably do a better job. At least, in terms of monitoring levels of things like Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and Iron, your doctor should be best for that. The basics of constipation are getting enough fluids – are you? – and getting in some exercise, if you’re allowed (another thing to ask your primary care doctor). Also, Fiber can help with constipation. Now that you’re probably starting to eat a more varied diet again after getting the sleeve, you can focus on high-fiber foods (after protein), like vegetables and fruit and Beans and some whole grains and starchy vegetables like squash.

Don’t let the surgeon get to you, although of course it’s easier said than done. He shouldn’t be allowed to see patients!

@@byebyefat, your surgeon sure was nasty, but keep your attention on yourself for your own good. Next time you see him and are over the shock of his coldness today, you may want to tell him that you'd hoped he'd be more supportive and willing to help find solutions, not berate you.

You're meeting your Protein and Water goals, which is great. It seems that many sleeve people have trouble with both. Beyond that, is it possible that your other choices haven't been the best? Are you tracking everything or only Protein and Water? Using a tracker that records quantities, calories, carbs, fat, nutrients, the whole shooting match? It may be that you're in an unusual period of stall now, but you didn't indicate whether you may unknowingly be short-changing yourself with some wrong foods. If I were in your situation, I'd prefer this to be the case, as switching to a serviceable tracker would reverse things right away. Take a couple of weeks of detailed trackers to the RD appt so you can go over them together in search of areas that may need some improvement.

You'll be fine.

You are NOT a failure and your honeymoon is far from over! You have gotten some really great advice from people here!

I found 3 things really amped up my losses (this is assuming meeting Protein, Water goals) -

1) look for hidden carbs. In my case I found them in Protein Bars, some Vitamins, almost anything that comes out of a box. I get plenty of carbs by e eating Protein and vegetable based diet, with low carb _protein drinks. Even fruit, is sugary and might not be your friend during weight loss phase. I am not a fan of milk for adults....as a doctor once told me "cows milk turns a baby calf into a half ton steer very rapidly, and has the same effect on people". Some of us are more carb sensitive then others but if you aren't losing as fast as you want, this is an area to experiment with.

2) calorie dense foods like nuts, Peanut Butter, too much cheese etc. Your tiny tummy can get alot of calories and carbs from those foods. Eat 100 calories worth of chicken, and you are satiated for hours - is that true of those nuts etc? Not for me

3) activity/exercise makes a difference. According to calorie math, it shouldn't matter much, but it does. I believe that more than the calories you burn during exercise, overtime it revs your moter up and you just burn more daily. I found higher intensity, shorter duration especially effective combined with an overall active lifestyle. You need to get to a reasonable level of fitness before you can go high I intensity, but slowly work toward it, results are amazing.

Your surgeon is an ass, but it isn't about him...it's about YOU making it to your goals. I know you can do this!

thank you so much, I really felt defeated yesterday and today is a new day and I'm not giving up, I did that with all of my other diets , thanks again for the wonderful advice , I truly appreciate it, yesterday I made a appointment with my Dr and nut, picked up my scripts and picked up some Metamucil , I might be spelling it wrong, I went for a long walk, cried a lil, pray , went to sleep and woke up brand new, thanks again for your kind words, have a great weekend

awesome advice, I'm on to the gym now, I thank you so much for your great advice , I never realized that about milk , I got my lab results and was Vitamin D deficient so in the last 3 days I've been drinking 8-12oz of milk, so I will lay off of it , thanks again

I agree with @@CowgirlJane about cow's milk but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy almond or coconut milk as a substitute. Just make sure to get the unsweetened kind. Almond milk is only 30 calories per cup and makes really creamy, yummy Protein shakes.

I have completely cut dairy out of my diet and it made a huge difference in my Constipation. Try it for a few weeks and see how you feel.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
