So I was diagnosed with sleep Apnea several weeks ago and have since started using a CPAP machine, I have the mask that just covers my nose and I find that I get a lot of air swallowed each night, so in turn I burp a lot in the morning.

I have not been banded yet, so I am wondering does anyone else out there who is banded and has sleep apnea have this problem or think this is going to be a problem for me? Any info is appreciated.

I have not been banded - just considering the procedure at this point. But I have been using CPAP equipment for the last 17 months. You should not be swallowing that much air overnight. There are things you can do to prevent that, from using a full-face mask, to using a chin strap, to taping your lips shut, to just training yourself to keep your mouth shut by putting the tip of your tongue behind your top front teeth. There is a very helpful message board (similar to this one) over at www.cpaptalk.com CPAP and sleep Apnea Discussion Forum that I think you might find very helpful. Very caring, supportive people there, too.

I had the same problem and the way that I fixed it was I had the presure setting lowered. After I lost 40 lobs I found I was waking up in the middle of the night belching air not gas. (Try explaining that to your spouse that is dying with laughter!) Anyway I went back and had another sleep study done and the presure was lowered and everything was fine. The preasure thing is not an exact science. They should do that for you relatively easy and without having to do another sleep study since you received the Cpap not so long ago.

Let me know how things work out. I am interested in hearing.

Godspeed to you,

Steve

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
