How Do you respond?

I had my surgery July 29, 2015 and have lost just over 100lbs so far, but I ABSOLUTELY hate when people ask how much have you lost followed by how did you do it. I usually answer "a lot" and I tell them the truth that I had the sleeve procedure. My problem is I then get that "oh you took the easy way out" look from people. There has been nothing easy at all about this journey. I had 4 months straight of nausea and vomiting and still suffer from some vomiting on a smaller scale. But I work very hard watching what I eat and exercising. How do I answering these questions while at the same time stressing that I've worked hard for my weight loss?

We share the same surgery date and I 'd like to congratulate you on your achievement. You know how hard you have worked and the results show it. Don't fret about what others who are ignorant of what you have been through might say. You did this for you and you have done great.

I agree w/ fernandfj... NO ONE would willingly have 80-85% of their stomach removed "looking for an easy way out".

People are cruel, nosy, they are busy-bodies...always looking for the next juicy piece of gossip to spread.

I had my procedure for ME...to reclaim a quality of life I'd gone without for far too long...The journey of preparation and the surgery itself weren't easy...and the life-long commitment is one that we have to be constantly aware of...watching, planning our bites and sips.

I'm less than 2 months out--and have heard more than a few unwarranted comments and absurd inquiries.

My last reply was, "You know how when you've got several problems going on...and you fix ONE...and the others sort of begin to take care of themselves and things fall into place on their own?---Yeah---that's the kind of surgery I had....I'd be glad to tell you more if you'd like to pay a portion of my medical bills...otherwise, I don't care to feed your morbid curiosities"

That put an end to it.

Hugs to you---and congratulations on your spectacular success!

Maybe their look you think they give that "you took the easy way out" is a surgery to lose weight because they can't relate to not being able to lose excess body weight (AND KEEP IT OFF) through dieting and exercise alone?

For those that outright say "you took the easy way out", don't bother to explain your actions, they are ignorant.

By the way, my fellow sleeve buddy, you have done an excellent job so far losing your excess weight. Congratulations!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
