Kaiser South Sacramento - Questions after Introduction Class

Recommended Posts

I just did the intro class for the weight loss surgery program, and requested to be formally referred to the program. In reading these forums, it appears everyone has a different path to surgery. I would like to know what everyone's requirements were for surgery (i.e. how much weight you had to lose, what tests you had to get done, etc.), how long was the process, and did you have concerns over the risk factors involved?

I'm in the same program and started a little ahead of you. I went to the intro class in Folsom and requested to be admitted to the program, they moved pretty quick to get me into the first orientation at South Sac were they have one of the surgeons give a class on the types of surgery then the dietitian give a good presentation on the nutrition needed and you will also meet the nurse care manager, the total "class" was about 4 hours. They will also schedule you with the surgeon during the class. They will also give you a binder which is like to total guide for the program. Good luck. So when you leave the class you should have your first appointment scheduled and a pretty good idea of the program.

I keep reading about pre-op liquid diets but nothing has been said about that during the classes I've gone too, have they put you on one for your surgery? I have been following the KP diet that is in the book and I'm about 1lb from my surgery goal weight.

I'm not quite there yet. I have my orientation class on February 4th, and from what I've read I'll get to schedule my appointment with the surgeon then. I have lots of questions that I'm hoping to have answered next week! What was your assignment amount of weight to lose for surgery?

I'm in this program. It is such an amazing program! The staff there are knowledgeable, friendly, and they make sure you are prepared. I'm on the same timeline is Deana. I had my first class in October and my surgery is Feb 16th. Some pre-op advice I will give is to ask a lot of questions at the nutrition class! It's a wonderful class with a ton of information. Good luck on your journey.

This is discussed in the pre-op class, which is usually scheduled the week before surgery.

I was accepted in the program in March. I have Kaiser insurance in Oregon. I had to attend 6 weeks of weight loss class. Then an orientation. Next a consultation with a dietician and a social worker. Then a follow up with them, 3 months later. Finally yesterday I had an ultrasound on all my organs. Today was blood work. It has been s very Long ,frustrating ordeal. Next step will be to see surgeon. I am so ready!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
