Well just got back from my Cardiologist. I had not seen him since about a month before surgery so I'm down 65-70 pounds. He eliminated one of the BP meds I was on. So with the Diabetes meds that left about 2 weeks after surgery I'm down to half the prescriptions I was taking. Feels great to be able to see improvement in all the things that were killing me because of the weight. Keep it up everyone its a good ride down.

Oh and not to sound excited like a girl but stopped in Goodwill to see if they had any jeans. Picked up a size 42 pair of Levis. Mind you I used to not even look at anything less than 50's. Didn't think i would even be able to button them but figured for 5 bucks i'll get there. Well they are a tad snug but I can get in them. Feels great.

What an amazing feeling that must be to be down so many meds and to get a smaller size in pants =) I am only 1 size away from not having to shop in "plus sizes" and I cannot wait to walk into the store just go to the regular sizes. :) You should feel proud of yourself, you are making amazing happen in your life.

That is great news. Did you have to take diabetes medicine when you left the hospital? I had RNY in November and am still taking insulin. Have lost 45 lbs and hoping to get off the meds soon good luck

I was never on insulin just oral meds. But they were gone about 2 weeks after surgery. If i could only get rid of the cpap machine, but my pulmonary doc won't do a sleep study until i get to a stable weight (frustrating).

One of the surprising motivators for me were clothes. I would buy a pair of jeans or a new shirt that was extremely tight. I generally had to take a deep breath in order to put it on. And then the next week almost like magic, it would fit like a glove. It is one of those intangible Non scale Victories (NSV).

Excellent news on dropping the meds!

Leaving meds behind and just feeling so much better physically are wonderful NSVs! Dropping clothing sizes, while getting expensive, is also surprisingly fulfilling!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
