Do bananas cause you to dump?/leg cramps

I ate half a banana this morning. I'm one month out. I'm having trouble with leg cramps at night and my NUT told me i could eat a mashed banana during this pureed phase. But i felt sick an hour later. I am trying to figure out why. Could it be the banana? Anyone else have trouble with the sugar in bananas?

  • I get asolutely ill from eating a banana. It's one of the few things I dump on.

There was a post about potassium on here earlier. A lot of people said the sugar bothered them. I started having to take a supplement.

My PCP recommended magnesium for my muscle cramps at night. Do a little research online. I take a calcium/magnesium supplement - 2:1, at night and have had no more issues. Try this before potassium I

@@bugsy72 Wow...you're able to eat bananas a month out from your surgery and its dietician approved? Enjoy! My Doc and Dietician only gives the green light on berries from the fruit category and only after their patients have lost 75% of their weight...they really prefer for us to be in the maintenance phase before adding fruits and a few other items.

Yes, my nutritionist said i could try 1/2 a banana at that time because i was having leg cramps, but it didn't go so well, made me sick. But now, 10 weeks out, I can happily enjoy 1/2 banana without a problem. Maybe even work up to a whole banana at some point...i do love them. I have some blueberries in the fridge that i've been wanting to try, but a little fearful. I'm in that "trial and error" stage (maybe it never ends?) where I'm able to try other foods now other than soups and yogurt and cottage cheese. :)

I totally understand your concerns about trying new things and your desires to add new things to the bland diet. Congrats on your success thus far and I certainly hope you're able to conquer the leg cramps--they're no fun.
