  1. I'm 5'8" and 62 years old. My bariatric dr gave me a goal of 180. I think id like to go lower but we shall see. I've lost 106 lbs since my 12-1-15 RNY. I'm at 196. Can't believe I've come this far. So thankful. I'll just keep losing as long as my body cooperates.

    Lost 200lbs

That is a fabulous accomplishment! I'm sure you feel so awesome. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing it!

    BEFORE AND AFTER!

Congratulations! That's a lot of weight in six months!
  4. I'm finding that i am much colder the past week since my surgery, and since I'm losing weight. I guess that only makes sense as the fat starts falling off. Are others experiencing that, too? I live in Chicagoland, so winter is approaching (although we've had a great season thus far!) and it will only get colder. I'm going to be in big trouble when it does! LOL
  5. One of the reasons I chose the RNY was because you're not supposed to be able to handle sugar. I'm a sugar addict so that was a big plus for me! It's been 3 1/2 months since my surgery and I haven't had any sugar. Hubby baked St. Patty's shamrock sugar Cookies with light frosting for church today. I decided I would try one this afternoon in the privacy of my own home; I wanted to know--would I dump if I ate sugar? I ate a whole cookie (pretty big actually) and i had no affect whatsoever! I'm really disappointed about that--I was hoping it was going to help me stay away from it. I know, I know, I shouldn't have even tested it but just ASSUMED, which is what I've been doing thus far. But now I know. It's back to willpower. I'm still going to try very, very hard to stay away from it though.
  6. hello! I made a friend through bariatric pal and she invited me to join this group (she says it's great) but...i had my RNY in december, two months earlier than the rest of you. Would that be ok for me to still join? Maralee
  7. Celebrate with me! I've lost 62 pounds since Thanksgiving (surgery was Dec 1), and I just realized I'm over halfway to my goal. That is so exciting. I'm still learning what to eat, how much, how fast, which seems to change regularly; but i have absolutely NO REGRETS. I feel so much better, look so much better. I have lengthened my lifespan. i am so thankful.

    Stand still

@@cherjar Congratulations on your weight loss. I have also lost 63 pounds. I had my RNY on Dec 1, 2015. I haven't stalled but the weight comes off slowly and steadily but not in large amounts at one time. Are you exercising? I started that in earnest about 3-4 weeks ago and I think that is helping. I actually don't think I'm eating enough. I decided to start logging in My Fitness Pal as of today so I know (and my NUT will know) exactly what I'm eating. I have trouble getting it all down, and still throw up each week, sometimes 2x, sometimes more.

    Bad news

I'm so sorry. That would have to be so disappointing---we count down the days, never thinking the surgeon might have to change the date. How dare he?! LOL I hope you'll continue to keep your chin up and realize...when you look back...that you were able to have your surgery and that a few days weren't as big a deal as you're thinking they are now. Good luck!

    Tall ladies!

I'm 5'8" and my goal weight, picked by me, is 185. If i get below that, woohooo! But I've never been at that weight, and I know I'll look amazing there. My highest was 336. I was 302 when i had surgery on 12-1-15. I've lost 63 pounds so far. I weighed 215 when I got married 40 years ago.... so 185 sounds...amazing.....

I want the TRUTH about vitamins!

I'm just 3 1/2 months out but i take my vitamins religiously. I use 2 flintstones complete chewable (one in morning, one at night) as directed by my dietician. Plus calcium chews (2 a day), biotin, a baby aspirin, a b-12 once a week, stool softeners (which aren't working well). I am eating so very little that I know i need the vitamins!

    Lost 200lbs total

You go, girl! Way to be an inspiration! Thank God--He is our source of strength!
  13. So, i have a question. I'm three months out now from RNY and have lost 55 pounds. Yay! I've been thinking about what my doctor said, months ago, at the information session. He said the first 7 or 8 months would be like a "honeymoon period" and weight would come off fairly easily. But after that, it would be harder, but people still COULD lose more weight for a few more months. I'm wondering why the slow down happens. If the pouch is still tiny, then we can't eat very much food, right? So why would the weight loss slow down? Does our metabolism/body adjust to having small portions? So then we will only "require" 800 calories a day (or whatever number you wish you put in there)? I'm just trying to logically figure out why the weight loss would stop. He did assure me that it would stop (like i won't starve myself to death) and I don't quite understand how that happens, either. Anyone have answers?
  14. This also makes me worry a bit about the two Calcium chews I have every day (calcium citrate). I used the 'formula' my NUT suggested to determine how much calcium I needed, but I'm wondering if i should cut back to just one a day...hmmm..... This sounds just awful. Hubby has had one. So painful.
  15. @ I've been having much more trouble getting fluid in, too. I eat what i need to eat then am not interested (can't) drink, sometimes for hours.... I know it's not a good thing. Maybe I should give up some "food" in order to get plenty of hydration in, too....because i know I haven't been close to 60 fluid ounces for awhile.

Feels like somethings in my throat

@@DDN Someone else just told me to take papaya this week when i have problems with that "stuck" feeling. I don't know how it would help if i ate too much or too fast or the wrong food though. I have this happen quite often. I am just a slow learner, i guess! I eat too fast or too much. I'm 3 months out and in the "trial and error" phase where I'm experimenting with regular food. I still stick pretty closely with yogurt and cottage cheese, string cheese, tilapia, soups, protein shakes. I like cheerios now (makes me feel "normal") with fairlife milk and unflavored protein powder in it for breakfast.

    CPap Machine question

I stopped using it after my surgery. First, because my surgeon didn't want me to wear it...some research about effects it may have on the healing pouch? Second, I only had "mild" sleep apnea to start with (level 6). I'm not going back to have another sleep study (ugh) because i really don't think i need the mask anymore. i've lost almost 60 pounds since diagnosed 18 months ago. I sleep well; I'm not tired during the day.
  18. I am three months out and tried a low sugar oatmeal this morning. I added some blueberries as I had tried those before without a problem. But I am still paying for Breakfast over three hours later. My pouch feels awful...like it's coming up the esophagus and just sitting there. I guess it's the "stuck" pain that people talk about. And maybe I ate it too fast. There was plenty of liquid to help it go down. But...sigh...i hate this part of having the surgery. I guess it's all in the "learning curve" though. I am very happy with the weight loss and I feel great, otherwise! Yesterday i went out for lunch with my daughter to Boston Market and had a drumstick off of her "1/2 chicken" plate. I took the skin off and the chicken went down just fine and tasted great. I ordered an extra side of mashed potatoes and gravy and ate about 1/3 of that. So eating out is becoming more doable. I brought the leftovers home and had them for dinner. I'm looking forward to trying a salad but I'm not sure I'm ready. It's scary to try new foods....because if they do "get stuck," it's so very uncomfortable!

  20. @@James Marusek But still, that is not very much to eat AT ALL per meal. Much fewer calories than "normal."
  21. hello fellow RNY folks. Well, today is my six week surgiversary. I'm doing well, feeling great, trying to figure out the learning curve with what food, how much food, etc. But all in all, things are going well. Except for exercise. I am 61, still weigh 259, and hate it. I have a treadmill and just forced myself to walk 3/4 of a mile in 24 minutes (=slow). I really dread it and am worried about my continued success if i don't exercise much. Are there some of you out there who have had extended success with just the food portion and not the exercise part? My bariatric center even gives me a year free membership at their fitness club but i have no desire to go there. Even a meeting with a personal trainer. They have a pool so i COULD do the aquacise thing (I used to do that many years ago) but where will i get the ambition to get dressed, in this 5 degree weather, and drive 25 minutes to the gym and then do it, and reverse it all? I'm sorry I'm having such a pity party. Just feeling down today about it.
  22. I joined the gym, had my assessment, and took my first class on Friday (for beginners) and walked a mile on Saturday. So i have BEGUN. Now...to continue!
  23. Well, i joined a health club, the one that is associated with my hospital where I had the gastric bypass. I get a free YEAR of membership and all classes are FREE. How can i not at least TRY to take advantage of that? So I joined, and today i had my 'assessment.' I will have two free sessions with a personal trainer on the next two Wednesdays. And this Friday, i will start my first class. It's just a 30 min class for brand new, "older" people like me, on the fitness floor. There are so many machines, so many weights etc, so many fit bodies...it's intimidating! But there are a few older people that I saw, which makes me feel better. And my trainer and teacher seems like a sweetheart, so that will help, too. Ok, people. Onward i go to "the next STEP."
  24. @@samcl1 I'd say "averaging 3-4 miles a night" would be just fine!
  25. @@Dar200 Thank you. It does help to know i'm not unusual, that others have the same challenges. I couldn't even get the Protein shake down last night. Threw up trying. So I gave up. This morning, felt just fine, thankfully. Today I've had: 1/2 banana, 1/2 Premier Protein shake (remainder from last night!), coffee, string cheese, babybel cheese, 2 crackers, 1/4 c clam chowder, sf banana cream pudding with fairlife milk. Tonight i'm planning on tilapia (and cooked mushrooms for the first time). What a difference a day makes! i think I will stay away from the Protein Bars for a few days and see how it goes. They are just so darn convenient--and good. I love them! Good luck to you.....
