Help me stock my fridge for pre op !

Recommended Posts

So this weekend I will spend time revamping my refrigerator and pantry to begin my pre op liquid diet on Sunday.

So, per my Nutritionist I am allowed.....

Protein shakes, ( Premier is preferred)

Water

sugar free Jell-o

sugar free Popcicles

broth 99% fat free

Crystal light or other sugar free calorie free additives

Black coffee witn sugar substitute

Any other calorie free liquid

So, other than the list give me some suggestions on things to stock my pantry .....what worked for you? What was your favorite? Least favorite?

I'm trying to transition my coffee to drinking it with a vanilla Protein shake in place of sugar/cream.....

I like the idea of trying to use vanilla shake instead of sugar and cream. How is that working?

@@Nurse_Lenora, your pre-op diet sounds almost identical to mine. I am on day 7. I have been using a variety of Protein drinks, including Premier Protein (pre made), powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup (YUM!) and Syntrax nectar chocolate truffle. broth and herbal tea have been my best friend. (I can add unflavored Protein to the broth and it still tastes good) For some reason, warm drinks seem to help. Also, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles help when I need to "chew".

The other suggestion I would make is to actually make home made chicken broth. I ended up having to do this during my liquid diet and it sucked because I really wanted to eat the chicken and vegetables.

The reason I say this is because you really crave something savory during the liquid diet. Good chicken broth really helped me get through my diet. My surgeons office recommended it when they called to check up on me mid diet and I told them I was so sick of the sweet.

Use a whole chicken, garlic, celery, carrots, onion, salt and pepper in a pot of boiling Water. Make it a large pot so you have a lot of it. Strain everything out, pull the chicken off the bones and freeze it for later. It will make some great chicken recipes when you can eat real food again.

That would be my recommendation. This broth carried me through and like someone else said, the warm liquid really helps!

Oh, and the canned broth tastes like dirty dishwater during this diet.

I totally agree. Most of the broth I'm eating is homemade turkey (made after thanksgiving) and homemade beef. I used bones and veggies and seasonings. After it was done, I chilled it so I could get all the fat off the top. It is seriously one of my favorite things!

Eh, it's ok...not perfect but better than no coffee! Just takes some adjusting to

I have been using Decaf coffee with sugar free vanilla and mixing it with my Vanilla Premier Protein shake....and it is awesome! I was very nervous about starting the liquid diet but I actually enjoy the Premier shakes. I guess my pre op is a little bit easier though, I am allowed one small meal a day until the day before and then it is all liquids. Good Luck to you!

The broth was the best thing. It was warm and savory. I got tired of the Protein drinks pre op and actually did an extra day of Clear liquids before because I couldn't stomach another Protein shake.

I am also pre-op but not to the pre-op diets yet but yesterday i did make some coffee and put some of the Premier Protein vanilla shake in it. i also thought it was a pretty good substitute for sugar and Creamer. i also put some of both in the blender with ice to try to make a slushy type consistency and it just made either the coffee or the Protein Shake really frothy which was kind of gross. :( maybe take two will go over better!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
