Yes everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if everything you have to say is negative then nobody wants to hear it. I don't care if this is public or not.

I've had 2600+ posts in this forum, and I can assure you they aren't all negative. Like I said, feel free to put me on ignore. Easy peasy.

wow. What happened to the good old days when people kept their mouths shut and kept scrolling if they didn't have anything nice to say? I guess those days have long gone and passed.

I'm planning to have my surgery next month in Mexico as well. Which Doctor did you decide to go with?

yay!!!!! I'm going with Dr. Ramos Kelly!!! What about you?!

We're in a public forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if you don't like it. I don't care for the Go Fund Me Approach. Feel free to ignore my posts if you like. That goes for you too, @bellabloom.

To the OP: I'm very happy you're getting your surgery. Just because I don't like Go Fund Me, doesn't mean I'm not rooting for you.

thank you very much. I'm very excited ????

My point with the horse story is that I was raised to not expect anything for nothing. I have to work hard for not only everything I want, but also for everything I need, and I shouldn't expect anyone else to pay my way. That has translated into self sufficiency, financial responsibility, prioritization, and patience. I am grateful for that invaluable life lesson.

And no, WLS is not a medical necessity in the sense it has to happen today. Unlike an emergency procedure like a cardiac bypass or removing a ruptured appendix or stopping internal bleeding after trauma, it can wait. Like the OP, My insurance didn't cover WLS. I was obese, in constant pain, had high blood pressure and was pre diabetic. But that still didn't mean I had a "right" to have this surgery. Instead, I saved for over two years to make it happen. And turns out the OP has found a way to make it happen, too. And I'm very happy for her and wish her all the success in the future.

thank you so much ????

I guess I'm a meanie, too, because I've taught my kids that they, too, are SOL if they can't afford something. I've loaned them money, I've given them extra chores, I've even helped them find after school jobs, but I will NOT let them ask their relatives for money just because they want something really really bad.

Real life and all that jazz. ;)

I never ever ask anyone for anything. Ever. I'd rather starve to death than ask someone (family or other) for a cracker or $1 for a McDonald's mcchicken sandwich because I don't like anyone to have anything they can hang over my head. More over, I don't want anyone judging me, questioning what I do, asking me for money etc.... If hubby and I can't make it happen then it won't get done. I'm saying this as I've been homeless, penniless and hopeless. I picked myself up and did what I had to do on my own. I've been working for years, paying into a medical plan "and all that jazz" too...so.

It's not anyone's place to judge. I'm sure you've been made fun of and judged a few times In your life...did you like it?

Why do people feel the need to be so negative and sarcastic all the darn time.

Never said you did.

Not judging anyone.

Don't really care/never really cared if some "judged" or "made fun of" me. ;)

I love that there are a few peeps here that are highly offended for the OP -- but the OP isn't.

I love that the people getting "trashed" for being negative/rude/sarcastic/etc, simply for stating that they don't support Go Fund Me in this situation, something the OP didn't use, but did ask for opinions on.

I love that a few were attacked for having an opinion, but someone else who had the same opinion was praised. Seems to me that the "judgement" came from the accusers for personal reasons not for the opinions asked for and voiced. Hmmm... ;)

I'm thrilled that the OP found a way, and I wish her well.

No. Some people can state their opinion with out being rude & others just like to be rude & nasty. It's old.

Please show me where I was nasty and rude. I simply related a story about how I am raising my children.

In fact, show where anyone was nasty and rude OTHER than the people who are pointing out the "nasty and rude" in others.

That's usually how it goes here. The ones screaming the loudest about others are usually the ONLY ones pointing fingers and calling names. It's amusing at best.

A$$holes and opinions, everyone has one.

Sometimes replies are about as subtle as a sledgehammer, so there is no misinterpretation; other times, since this is not a face to face conversation with visual cues, someone's reply may be misinterpreted.

If you weren't rude why are you commenting? My response was toward one person and we have addressed the issue. Now if there is something you want to say to me specifically, feel free. Strangers on the internet can't hurt my feelings.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
