Dub I can only hope I will feel outstanding after surgery!

It's so frustrating and a little nerve-racking being pre-op and not exactly knowing what awaits on the other side.

You'll feel great.

You are in the worst times.....the pre-op times. Ride it out....take on the liquid diet with vigor. Embrace it. Reap the rewards of the rapid weight loss that you'll see from the liquid diet.

Have your surgery........wake up in the recovery room and take it all in. Be relieved. You're done. Finished. No more waiting .

Once you get to your hospital room you'll start to regain even more of your senses. You'll notice that you aren't hurting....head is clearing up. You'll be thirsty. They'll probably bring you some ice chips. Glorious ice chips.< /p>

Don't get pissed when you feel they are coming in your room really shortly after you arrived there to get you up and walking. They know what they are doing and you just have to trust & believe. Getting up every couple hours to walk is hugely beneficial to you in many ways. You may or may not be experiencing gas pains from the residual internal gas they use on any type of abdominal surgery with scope tools. I never had it. Some do. Some don't. Walking, though....is a sure way to reduce any of those pains and help get it worked out of your system.

You'll be groggy and want to sleep but they'll be waking you up to get vitals, to talk and to get you walking. Go with it and know that you are on the road to feeling better.

Take an extra pillow & a dose of pain meds for the trip home from the hospital. Hold it over your abdomen in the car ride home. It'll help a great deal as the car goes over bumps.

Once home.....I avoided the bed. Laying flat just wasn't going to be comfortable.....getting up from bed was going to be a beast with my repaired hernia (the only source of pain.....none from the sleeve). My new recliner was.....and continues to be a great piece of furniture.

Keep on your walking schedule. Don't let it slip.

Don't even think about getting on a scale for those first two weeks. It's pointless. Your body is going to take on lots of fluids via the IV lines and there may be swelling from the surgery......all is normal and expected. Your body has gone through a lot of changes and may very well retain Fluid during this time........your weight is not trustworthy metric at this point. Just give it two weeks. It'll all get sorted out by then as you continue with the liquid diet.< /p>

Enjoy the fact that hunger will most likely be gone from your life. Don't forget to take your Protein shakes on time and to have your supplements as instructed by the doctor. It can become very, very easy to forget to get your shakes in.

Please.....do not stress about what can I eat.......what can I not eat........just stick through the first month and do exactly as your surgeon instructs.

You'll be able to eat food you like in the near future.......only you'll simply want a bite or two and then you are done with it. I've found that my former love of pizza, Pasta and breads in general is gone. Way gone. Went out for Italian with my wife recently......at the meatballs and left the rest on the plate........cheeseburgers are awesome, however I don't want the buns.......pizza, I still love, but I just really want the toppings and cheese. These changes haven't been forced....they just came naturally. I truly don't care for candy anymore, either. It's like I've become a carnivore.....who takes his Vitamins.

You are in the hardest part now.....it'll pass quickly. Trust me on this. I'm 10 weeks out from my VSG surgery on this very day and there has been nothing about it that I wouldn't gladly go through again.

You'll do great. Relax and enjoy the ride.............

I am five weeks out and have felt great the whole time. I did not have mood changes at all. I was really happy the whole time after surgery. One big reason was that I felt to good. No pain to speak of, just soreness. And another biggie, I WAS FINISHED WITH THE PRE OP DIET!!! I did it and survived it, barely haha. I haven't look back since.

Funny how people are so different. I actually lost 15 pounds my first three weeks after surgery. I didn't retain the fluids.

I do have to say that I went into surgery with my mind made up that I WAS going to feel good and that there would be no issues.

Good luck to you!!!

After the initial recovery period, I started feeling much better once the weight started coming off. My attitude has changed for the better. I feel more outgoing and interactive with others as I am less concerned with how I appear to others weight wise.

I was very moody PRE op, but not post op. I think I had a moment the second day home of What Have I Done to Myself. But it only lasted 15 minutes. I basically feel better about myself than I have in decades. I'm eight weeks out and my mood is incredibly stable. I have a history of depression and anxiety (since I was 14). I am on meds but I see an improvement in my mood since surgery. Good luck with your adventure! And happy holidays!

After my surgery I can admit some slight depression for a week or two. But after the weight comes off and your energy increases you get that spark back. I now feel beautiful and it has boost my confidence. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm not there yet but I can see the changes happening. Good luck!

Surgery was on 12/15, so I'm no vet but I can say I'm a bit depressed. I have a history of anxiety and depression so I'm dealing with it. What's really strange is how easily I cry.

I used to be a little on the hard hearted side, but since surgery I can't go a day without weeping about -something-. A song. A commercial. Some random act of kindness. Something will make me cry.

I was moody the first two weeks post op. Most of it was the cabin fever especially the first week when I couldn't drive and was stuck at home. Being cooped up doesn't suit me well. I can tell you it gets better.

My pain was pretty much controlled three days post op. Now that I'm back to normal activity I feel good. Glad to be moving forward.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
